Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Absent: None On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil, the following applications for permit to build were granted: George -. Kilbern - Tv;o residences and garage - Pt of Blk 92, Cost 3850.00 A. Lanotti - Residence, Pt of Lots 9 & 101 Blk 1161 1.4 & C. ddn. Cost 1500.00 J.J. and Angela Jensen - Two story Duplex and garage, 1 Pert of Lot 10 Blk 339 Cost 4998.00 The Assembly of God _Church - Part of Lots 7 & 71 Blk 114, M & C Addn.Cost 3000.00 - Application of Cole Bros. Circus by VI. J. Lester, Agent, for license for circus on September 24th, 1940 was granted - such license to be issued under the terms 1 of the City ordinance. Motion carried. The applications of Rudolph's Electric by H. W. Rudolph, for permit to hang neon signs for Lehnhoff & L -ux Service Statin, 406 Higuera Street, and, for Frank Jackson, 676 Higuera Street were referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report tc the Council. The following applications for permit tolconnect with sewer were referred to the Commissioner of Public Works, with power to act, onfimotion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R. P. Howell: Ton Machado - Murray Street between Motley Ave. and Kentucky Street Alf red F. Selvage - Fixlini Street between Spring St. and the end of said Street. The Official Bond of Leonard Langer as Assistant Superintendent of Streets was presented and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by I.I.F. H. Brazil the said bond was approved and accepted. Re: rat poisoning project. Dr. E. M. Bingham, Health Officer, notified the Council that the Health Department has obtained .a sufficient supply of rat poison to con- duct a moderate poisoning campaign in the City. Matter discussed and Commissioner of lublic Health and Safety, W: H. Brazil, was given authority to proceed with the said project, in connection v)ith the Health Department. The report of the City Uollector on unpaid licenses for the July quarter was received and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil.the same was referred to the Police Department for collection. The application of the.Valley Electric Co. for permit to hang a double faced neon sign at 692 Marsh Street for E. C. Stock was granted on motion.of Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell with the provision that work be done under the supervision of the City Engineer and in accordance with existing ordinance. Application of Theo. Vega for license for Lodging House at 1716 Osos Street was ,. held over until the next meeting. A notification from the State Board of Eeualization dated 8/15/40 re: application of Mary J. Anderson for license for "On Sale Beer" at 406 Higuera Street was again taken u , and on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy such application was referred to 1 the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety, with pov:er to act. Commissioner of Public 1,17orks, R. P. Howell, reported favorable on the applicati s of .`J. L. Payton and of F. C. Kimball for permit to recess curbs for driveways on the west side of Chorro Street between Pacifio Street and Pismo Street and on theT -west side of Chor 0 Street between Pismo Street and Buchon Street respectovely, and on his.motion, seconded by 1 r 1 1 1 Ralph C. Kennedy the applications were granted. The petition of Augustus Castro and Fred L. Gist for cancellation of certain tax sales again continued. The matter of the protest of C. A. Younglove relative to a certain motor at Bay's Market continued for further investigation by the City Engineer. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C.Kennedy by the following vote: Ayes: YI.H.Brazil, R. P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: None The resignation of the temporary Recreation Commission consisting of Carl G. Beck, Mrs. G. D. Kelker, Dr. W. H. Brazil, W. T. Shipsey and Dr. L. W. "Campbell was received. After discussion it was moved by Joseph Leary, seconded by R. P. Howell that the resignati be accepted. Motion carried. It was then moved by Ralph 0. Kennedy, seconded.by R. P. Howell that the Clerk write each member of the former temporary Recreation Commission thanking the said members for their services in connection with the Recreation Commission. Motion carried. Mayor F. C. Kimball appointed Commissioner Ralph C. Kennedy a committee of one to arrange for an open meeting for the discussion of recreation matters. On motion of F. C. Kimball, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, W. T. Shipsey was named as a member of the Board of the Free rublic Library Trustees to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of Dr. Dorsey M. Kelley. It was moved by W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy that the City Clerk write a letter to K. V. E. C. Radio Station expressing thanks and appreciation of the Council for advertising afforded the City of San Luis Obispo through their broadcasting program on August 24th, 1940, also expressing congratulattrns on completion of new building. Re: Blinker Traffic Signs at the intersection of Santa Rosa and Marsh Streets: [utter discussed and Commissioner of Public Health and Safety to take up the matter with Mr. Dolliver of the Highway commission.
