View and North Broad Streets. Motion carried. In a communication, J. L. Anderson of the Hotel Anderson; protested the pro- posed operating of a shooting gallery at 1021 Morro Street. The application of R. H. Holmes and Joseph Zatter for license for shooting gallery ' at 1021 Morro Street was denied on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Joseph Leary In a communication, Fannie Anderson thanked the Council for the installation of an electric light at the corner of Murray and Kentucky Streets. On motion of W. H.$razil, seconded by Joseph Leary the following applications 1 for licenses were granted: Murray Ross - Auctioneer - Rt #1, Box 23, San Luis Obispo H. S. Nisbet - Soft Drinks 1022 Morro Street On motion of 111. H. Brazil, seconded by Joseph Leary, Jack K. Anderson was appointed as a regular iolice Officer, beginning November 6th, 1940. James ,Zuaglino appeared and requested that a Stop Sign be placed at n'iitchell Drive and Broad Street, and on motion duly seconded and carried the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety was directed to investigate the feasibility of placing a Stop Sign at Mitchell Drive and Broad Street. Kimball, Joseph Leary Absent: None The minutes of the meetings of November 4th and November 12th were read and approved as read. On motion of R. F. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil the following applications for permit to build were granted: Roy V. Warden - Res. and Garage, Lot 4, Blk 10, Anholm Addn. Cost $ 3000.00 August M. Melim - Res. and Garage, Lot 12, Blk 79 3000.00 ' Harry D. Anderson - Stucco Residence, Lot 16, Blk 11 Caudill Tract Cost 42.00 Frank Barcellos - Remodeling building, Pt Lot 6, Blk 24 " 75.00 Upon motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy the application of Jerry Richards to remove three trees from the sidewalk area in front of his residence at 1445 Marsh Street was referred to the Commissioner of rublic Works, with power to act. The application of B. Hemen for license for Lodging House at 878 Marsh Street was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report, upon motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil. The application of George = [ilbern to construct 54 ft. of :sidewalk on the southside of Buchon Street between Broad and Nipomo Streets was referred to the Commissioner of Public 71orks, with power to act, upon motion of Ralph C. Greenleaf to construct 116 ft.. of sidewalk on the north side of Marsh Street between Chorro and Morro Streets and the application of L. W. Kamm to construct 35 ft. of sidewalk on the East side of Chorro Street between Marsh and Hieuera Streets were granted upon motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil, work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. A letter was received from Mr. L. H. Gibson, Listrict Engineer, Division of Highways, in reference to a truck route sign proposed to be erected at the extension of Chorro Street with the Morro Road and upon motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R. 1. Howell, the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety was authorized to erect such sign at that location. Upon motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell the letter from the State Department of Public Health dated November 12, 1940, in reference to meeting at Monterey, California was ordered placed on file. Letters were. received from Chester Haywood and Steve Zegar protesting the issuance of additional licenses for taxicabs in the city, and upon motion of R. !'.Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil said letters were ordered received and placed on file. Mr. Frank J. Brantley addressed the Council in reference to a moving van with a large sign painted thereon which has been parked on a vacant lot fronting on Kentucky St. The matter was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for attention. The application of James R. Sherman for a taxicab license was continued one week as was the application of Helen Adams for Lodging House at 964 Chorro Street. The petition of R. M. Johnson for permit to erect a signboard on Marsh Street near the intersection of Santa Rosa Street was again before the Council. A discussion was had and upon motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Joseph Leary the permit was granted, such signboard to be erected under the supervision of the City Engineer. The application of Mrs. Frank W. Funk to construct a sidewalk for 50 ft. on the Southside of Mill Street between .Grove and Park Streets was granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil. The letter of Dr. E. M. Bingham, dated November 12, 1940 in reference to the installation of a chlorination plant was again before the Council, and a discussion of this matter was had - no action was taken, but the matter carried over for one week. Notification from the State Board of Equalization in reference to the appli- cation of Myron C. Bledsoe for "On Sale Beer" license at 1088 Higuera Street was received and placed on file on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell. Resolution No. 548 (New Series) - ri Resolution declaring a portion of calm Street to be and conlitute a boulevard was adopted upon motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell upon the following roll call vote: Ayes: W.H.Braail, R.r. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. i�imball, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: None A discussion was had in reference to traffic on Pacific Street and the necessity of a Boulevard Stop at Pacific and Beach Street, and upon motion of R. P. Howell, seconded Ralph C. Kennedy, the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety was requested to investigate these matters and report to the Council. The City Attorney presented a Resolution to remove a Boulevard Stop Sign at Mt. View and Broad Streets, which resolution was not adopted. Upon motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell, J. B. Landreth was appointed as round Master and City Janitor at a salary of $125.00 per month; $50.00 was to be paid from the Administration Fund and $75.00 from the rublic Health and Safety Fund.
