Communication from W. 0. Hudson, 2530 Lawton Street relative to house numbers in that vicinity, was before the Council and after discussion on motion of Ralph C.Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil the matter was referred to the Commissioner of rublic Works and the City Attorney for investigation and report. The petition of C. D. Stowe for permit to install four additional gasoline pumps at the Aut -O -Tel Service Station at the corner of French and Higuera Streets was granted on motion of H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy with the provision that the work be done under the supervision of the City yngineer and under the existing ordi The applications of C. E. Easter for licenses for Boarding House and Lodging House at 977 Santa Rosa Street were held over at the request of the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety. Notification from the 16tate Board of Equalization under date of December 28, 1940 regarding the application of Ben Wargon for license for "On sale beer" at 645 higuere Street was received and ordered placed on file, on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. The application of Cecil 0. Day for permit to stand a peanut and popcorn wagon on Monterey Street between Court and Osos Streets was continued for further investigation. The City Clerk was directed to send a letter of condolence to Mrs. C. M. Carpenter and son, expressing the sympathy of the Mayor and the Council, on account of their recent bereavement at the death of Mr. Cecil M. Carpenter, Ex- Councilman. On motion of Ralph C. E. L. Andrews, 1237 Mill Street petitioned the Council for permit to hook ip two houses to one sewer. Application granted,- work to be done under the supervision Df the City Engineer. Col. G. A. Clapp of Camp San Luis Obispo and Dr. E. Td. Bingham of the local iealth Department appeared before the Council relative to milk pumps and compulsory milk pasteurization and sale of raw milk in bulk and recommended that a pasteurization milk ordinance be passed. Hudson, 2530 Lawton Street relative to house numbers on the said street: It was moved by Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by-W. H. Brasil that the ordinance regarding house numbers on Lawton Street between Caudill Street and Mitchell Drive be enforced. Motion carried. Joseph Leary voted "No ". The matter-of the application of the Southern Pacific Railroad Co. for permit to construct new track across High Street was continued for one week. Ordinance No. 222 (New Series) An Ordinance defining and Regulating the use of Mechanical Amusement Devices in the City of San Luis Obispo; Providing for the issuance of licenses to the operators and owners of, and licenses for the use, operation and mainte nance of, mechanical amusement devices;-Providing for the impounding and confiscation of such devices when installed, operated or maintained to be operated in violation of this ordinance; Providing for a saving clause; and providing penalties for the violation of this ordinance, was introduced and passed to print on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. F. Howell by the following vote: Ayes: I.H.Brazil,: R.F. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Brazil, seconded by Joseph Leary it was ordered that George S. Maxey and D. E. Bassetti be appointed as members of the Police Department, as of Janua 21, 1941 for a probationary period of six months at the usual starting salary of $125.00 per month. Motion carried.
