To bteak hole 3 x 3 in pavement for the purpose of making a service connection. On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil the following petitions and application for licenses were referred to the Commissioner of Fublic Health and Safety for investigation and report: Modern Neon Sign Co. - Neon Sign for Sam Adler - 1050 Monterey St. Uildre.d Overman - Boarding House - 535 Hathway Ave. American Cab Co. - Taxicabs - Morro and Higuera Sts. H. S. Anderson - Wholesale Bakery - 573 Higuera St. Transfer of License of "Mode O'Day" from Alice Ellwanger to Seip & Ingles - 720 Higuera St The application of S. Charles Jackson for permit to hang wooden sign on the Chorro Street side of the Wickenden Bldg, was granted with a proviso, subject to the will. of the Council. The application of Jens Bennedsen for sidewalk, curbing and gutter for a distance of 40 ft. on the east side of Santa Rosa Street between Pacific and Pismo Streets was granted on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R. P. Howell- work to be done under the supervision af the City Engineer. A letter was received from Ruth Wallis requesting the City to pay for repairing hew sewer line in the amount of $6.90, as charged by the Union Hardware and Plumbing Co., damage caused by the City Street Department road scraper, and on motion of Ralph C.Kennedy, seconded by R. P. Howell, same was referred to the Commissioner of Public "arks, with power to act. Communication received from Mrs. Wilfred Zanoli, 1437 Beach Street, requesting a survey be made concerning placing of a "Stop Sign!.at the intersection of Beach and Buchon Streets was read to the Council, and on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil, same was referred to the Commissioner of rublic Health and Safety for investigation and re The following permits held over from the last meeting were granted on motion of R. Pt of Lots 1 & 20 Block 120, Reeds Addn. " 1000.00 The application for permit to build warehouse for Juillard- Cockcroft Corp. was again held over until the plans have been checked. The application of Frances & N. M. Jacobson for Residence and Garage was again re- -ferred to the Commissioner of Public Works, with power to act. The following applications for permit *ere granted on motion of R. P. Howell, sec by W. H. Brazil - work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer: W._ "L. Righetti - Sidewalk on the east side -of Osos St. between Peach and Mill Streets ( as amended ) Frank B. Love - Sewer connection on Mitchell Drive between Tenbrook and Chandler Streets, On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell the following licenses were granted: George H. Shepard - Taxicab and Auto Livery - 894 Monterey St. Aaron U. Cook - Taxicab Transfer of License of Taxicab from De Luxe Cab Co. to Mission Taxi Co. The matter was again taken up at this time regarding bids for official advertising of the City of San Luis Obispo ( See Minutes of July 14, 1941 ) and on motion of Ralph C.. Kennedy, seconded by W. h. Brazil it was moved that the San Luis Obispo Independent be awarded a contract for the official advertising of the City of San Luis Obispo from this date to June 30, 1942 for all legal advertising where published.in a daily newspaper is not required by the Charter and Ordinance of the City; upon the following vote: Ayes: 'W.H.Brazil; Ralph C. Kennedy Noes: R. P. Howell, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Absent: None The motion lost. On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by F. C. Kimball it was moved that the San Luis Obispo Independent, a weekly newspaper,.be awarded a contract for the official advertising of the City of San Luis Obispo from this date to June 30, 1942, for all legal advertising where publication in a daily newspaper is not required by the Charter and Ordinances of the City, and that the Telegram- Tribune, a daily newspaper, be awarded a contract for the official advertising of the City of San Luis Obispo from this date to June 30, 1942, for all legal advertising where publication in a daily newspaper is required by the Charter and Ordinances of the City, be adopted upon the following roll call vote: Ayes: W. H. Brazil, R.-P. Howell, F. C. Kimball, Noes: Ralph C. 1iennedy, Joseph Leary Absent: None This being the time fixed by the Council for receiving bids for the'Improvement of Grove Street (Jt.) Imp. District under Resolution of Intention No. 583 (New Series) and in accordance with published notice inviting sealed proposals for said work dated June 16, 19419 the following is the only bid received which was publicly opened and read: Brown, Doko and Baun , a partnership, Pismo Beach, Calif. Total amount as per bid on file . . . . . . . . . 22,399.99 Certified check in the amount of $2250.00 accompanied the bid. 1 1 1 1 n u I � �IJ 1 Resolution No. 599 (New Series) - A Resolution of the City Council of the 113 City of San Luis Obispo awarding the contract for the work described in Resolution of Intention No. 583 (New Series) of said City Council was adopted on motion of R. P.Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil by.the following vote: Ayes: W.H. Brazil, R.P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: None Regarding the letter from the San Luis Obispo Fire Department, under date of July 14, 1941 requesting a salary increase; after discussion and on motion of W. H. Brazi: seconded by R. P. Howell it was ordered that the Council consider a raise for the Fire Department and Police Department in making up the 1941 -42 budget. The application of Rudolph Marshall for permit to build addition to present building on Lot 72 Block 55 qt a cost of 01500.00 was granted on motion of R. P.Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil. On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, the applicatinn of S. Charles Jackson ( the original one filed) for permit to hang an electric sign on Chorro Street, and application of Robert nrmstrong for Taxicab license were denied, without prejudice. The letter from the San Luis Obispo City.Schools was again held over awaiting report from the City Engineer as to cost. Ordinance No. 228 (hew Series) - An Ordinance amending Ordinance No. 122 (New Series) by adding thereto a new section to be numbered 24:1 was finally passed upon the following vote: Ayes: W. H. Brazil, R.P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: None The matter of the Santa Maria Gas Co. franchise was again held over. Supervisor Richard Willett appeared .before the Council asking the Council to pass a resolution requesting funds for a USO Building. Mayor Kimball appointed ConLnissioners R. P. Howell and Ralph C. Kennedy as a committee to investigate locations on possible site: for same and- on motion of Mayor Kimball, seconded by W. H. Brazil it was ordered that the City of San Luis Obispo take steps to file the necessary application. Mayor Kimball announced the date of July 21st to 28th inclusive as the official date for the aluminum drive, also,.stating that San Luis Obispo had been selected as a secondary concentration point to take care of this -area and on motion of W.H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy it was ordered that the city give all available help to the Board of Supervisors and the California State Council of Defense in the National Aluminum. Collection Drive and urged all individuals to cooperate to the fullest. extent and all or- ganizaticns to lend them their support. Resolution No. 600 (New SeriesL=. A Resolution Authorizing the Mayor to make application to the State Board of Health for a permit to make certain improvements to the Sewage Disposal Plant was adopted on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H.Brazil by the following vote: Ayes: W.H. Brazil, R.P. Howell, Ralph Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: None Resolution No. 601.(New Series) - A Resolution providing for the execution of an Agreement between the City of San Luis Obispo and E. C. Reynolds relating to the lease of one Harley Davidson motorcycle ( 61- Overhead valves), serial No. 41EL 5756 was passed and adopted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H.
