Nelson, Libraries, of theSanta '"aria Library, thanking the City Council for the telegram of congratulations on the dedication of the new library building, was read and ordered received and filed. Communication was read from the War Department of the U. S. ''ngineer's Office of Los Angeles relative to-a Public Hearing to be held in San -Luis Obispo Courthouse at 2:00 P. M., Tuesday, August 5, 1941 for the establishment of a Special Anchorage area at Avila, Port San Luis, California, and same was ordered received and filed. Communication received from the League of California Cities, asking for suggestions as to problems etc. confronting the City to be placed before the program committee at their 43rd Annual Conference to be held in Sacramento on October 13th to 16th; after discussion it was referred to the Commissioner of Finance for reply. Communication received from the Southern Pacific Company relative to proposed passenger station in San Luis Obispo. Same was ordered filed. Communication received from Billie Glenn Young advising the Council of her withdrawal from the Young Beauty Shop at 893 2onterey Street and in the future all licenses to be made out to Embra Short Young. Letter received from the City of Santa Barbara inviting the members of the City Council to attend the Santa Barbara Fiesta luncheon on August 7th. Same was ordered filed. Letter received from Mrs. Grace E. Kelshaw asking for permission to remove tree from parkway in front of her house. After discussion, and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy,_ seconded by W. H. Brazil, permission was granted to remove tree at her own expense. Notification received from the State Board of Equalization relative to transfer of location of "On Sale Beer and Wine" License for V. V. Costa from 995 Higuera Street to 679 Marsh Street; same was ordered filed. ' Communication received from B. J. Haley regarding permission of the use of the street alongside of the Stag Billiard Parlor on Morro Street for a Taxi Stand. Same was ordered filed. Communication from the Pacific Gas and Electric Co. by Chas. J. Kelly advising that Mr. George M. Shepard of Santa Margarita is not in the employ of their company. Same was ordered filed. 1 4 protest was received from the City of E1 Paso de RoblesTelative to the Application of the City of San Luis Obispo to appropriate water from the Salinas River; after discussion and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil, same was referred to the City Attorney for study and report. A communication received from C. R. McAdams requesting the City of San Luis Obispo to reimburse him for a bill of $22.65 for labor done in connection with replacing a sewer joint and digging for same at the corner of Morro and Walnut Streets. On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. .Kennedy, the request was denied. 1 I 1 1 A communication was received. from ,Mrs,. ,W. -S.. Bradbeer regarding the side- 117 walk space on North Broad Street from Monterey.Street to the Bridge near the Anholm Tract as being unsafe for pedestrians, due to the roughness of the street and -rocks that are loose; after discussion it was moved by Ralph C. Kennedy,..seconded by W. H. Brazil that the Street Department be instructed to level the sidewalk area on the Northeast side of Broad Street from a point 150 ft. Northwest of Peach Street, to the curb line on the North west side of Monterey Street and remove all debris and unnecessary obstacles therefrom. Motion lost. R.P. Howell and Joseph Leary voted "No ". On motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by Joseph Leary it was moved that the matter be referred to the Commissioner of Public Works for investigation and report. Report of the City Treasurer for the month ending June 30, 1941 was received and ordered filed. The following applications for permits to build were granted on motion of W. H. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil. The petition of the Modern Neon Sign Co. by Perry Hall for permit to hang a double faced neon sign for Sam Adler at 1050 Monterey Street waS granted on motion of W. H Brazil. seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, with the provision that sign be hung under the sups vision of the Building Inspector. The applicatinn of Mildred Overman for Boarding House at 535 iiathway Ave. was granted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. The following applications were granted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy: American Cab Co. - Taxicabs - 1013 Chorro St. ( As amended ) H. S. Anderson - Wholesale Bakery - 573 Higue ra St. Transfer of license from Alice Ellwanger (Mode O'Day Shop) at 729 Higuera St. to Seip and Ingles. Re: Letter from Ruth Wallis attaching bill from the Union Hardware Co. for repair to sewer, damaged by the city scraper was again brought up; after discussion and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by Fa. H. Brazil, the City Clerk was authorized to draw warrant in payment of this bill, in the amount of $6.90, made payable to the Union Hardwar Co. Re: Petition from residents of the area immediately beyond the Goldtree Tract asking the City to extend the service of water to their area; on motion of R.P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil the request was denied, without prejudice. Communication received from Mrs. Wilfred Zanoli requesting the city to place a Stop Sign at the intersection of Beach and Buchon Streets.; discussion was hack: and on motion of V7. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, the City Attorney was instructed to draw up Resolution and present same to the Council. Mr. Easton of the Santa Maria Gas Co. appeared before the Council relative to the franchise, but owing to the absence of the Mayor, no action was taken.. On motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by V1.H. Brazil, the meeting adjourned.
