Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Absent: Done. The minutes of August 18th and 25th were read and approved as read: The following applications for permit to build were granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil: Chris Anholm - Residence and Garage, Lot 7, Blk 3, Anholm Addn. Cost 4600.00 Ayes: W.H.Brazil, Ralph C. Kennedy Lou Rosenberg - Theatre, Part of Block 23, 1000000.00 The petition of Arthur E. Gunter to hold gospel meetings in the City of San Luis , Jens Bennedsen - Residence and Gar. Pt Blk. 201 -A, Dallidet Addn. " 3,500.00 The following permits to connect with sewer were granted on motion of R. P. Ward I. Cook - Res. and Gar. Lot 13, Blk. 14, Anholm Addn. " 32800.00 Belle B. Petition signed by F. D. Muzio et al was read to the Council, asking the Council to refuse the application on file from Chas. C. Hale for a shooting gallery at 1131 Monterey Street. Same was ordered received and filed. Petitions signed by Harry F. MacDonald et al.and by the `ride -Awake Cafe et al, ' was presented to the Council, asking the Council to grant Chas. C. Hale a license to operate a shooting gallery at. 1131 Monterey St. Same was ordered received and filed. It was moved by W. H. Brazil, and seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy that the application of Chas. C. The following permits to connect with sewer were granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil - work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer: Belle B. Flores - Sewer connection on Lawton St. between Woodbridge and Funston Streets. Ward I. Cook - 'Sewer coon. on'Lincoln St. between Venable & Mission Streets ( 2 coon. ) The petition of the U.S.O.- Y.W.C.A. by Genevieve James, for permission to hang a sign at 991 Osos St. was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report. ( Confectionery, Lunch, Soft Drinks ) at 1177 Marsh 5t. was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report. The application of Harry Friedman, The Contracting Engineers Co. for regis- tration as a Class "A" contractor, together with the General Casualty Co. bond in the amount of $5000.00 and registration fee of $150.00 received and on motion of Ralph C.Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil, it was ordered that the surety be accepted, bond approved and registration! granted. r:- The application of the Terminix Co. -bf Southern California for registration 1_i as a Class "E" Contractor was held over until such time that they furnish the City of San Luis Obispo the proper bond. Communication received from the American Legion Post No. 66 requesting the Mayor to designate a place.within the City of San Luis Obispo along the route of E1 Camino Real, where travelers, if they so desire, could pick up soldiers desiring to go to distant points; after discussion, it was moved by W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell, that the com- munication be referred to the Mayor. Notification received from the State Board of Equalization for application for license for "Beer & Wine Wholesalers" and "Beer Importers" for John J. Langdon to be transferred from 306 Higuera St. to 304 Higuera St. Same was ordered received and filed. Communication from Jones Transportation Service asking for permission to place benches at the four corners of Chorro and Higuera Streets was denied. Communication received from the Santa Maria Gas Co. relative to the adoption of Resolution No. 611; same was referred to the City Attorney. The reports of the Police Judge, Police Department and the City Collector for the month of August, 1941 was ordered received and filed. The Collector's report showing the unpaid licenses for the July Quarter, 1941 was referred to the Commissioner of Fublic Health and Safety and the Police Department for collection. f Claims against the City for the month of August, 1941 was ordered pa .id, subject to the approval of the heads of the respective departments and the Mayor. Turner - Conn. on Palm St. between .Ida and Grove Sts. Ed. White - " Palm St. between Ida and Grove Sts. The following applications for sidewalk and curbing were granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil: Arley Gill - 100 ft. of sidewalk on the North side of Pismo St. between Carmel and Beach Streets and 90 ft. retaining wall on Carmel St. D. H. Molinari - 48.3 ft. on the west side of Chorro St, between Mt. View and Lincoln Sts. D. H. Molinari - 183.3 ft. sidewalk on the south side of Mt. View St. between Chorro and No. Broad St. J. C. Naylor - 87 ft. sidewalk on the south side of High St: between Chorro and Broad Sts, and curbs and gutters, The application of the National Farm Loan Assn. for permit to hang a metal sign at 990 Monterey St. was denied, on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. The application of Nehi Bottling Co. for license to conduct Soda dater Bottling at 120 Higuera St. was granted on motion of W. H. Brazil seconded by R. P. Howell. The petition of Harry Gillis to install.gas storage tank at 226 Price St. was granted on motion of W. H: Brazil, seconded -by Ralph C. Kennedy; work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. Ordinance No. 230 (New Series) - An Ordinance levying a tag for the current fiscal year ( 1941 -1942) upon all taxable proterty within the city of San Luis Obispo and fixing the rate of such tax was finally passed on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil upon the following roll call vote: r:-
