Kennedy, F: C: Kimball, Joseph Leary Absent: None The reading of the minutes of November 17th and November 24th was waived. The following applications for permit to build were granted on motion of R.P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil: Carl Van Schoonhoven - Garage and workshop, Part of Lots l & 2, Blk. 77, $ 650.00 Geo, A. Gushing - Raise roof of existing bldg. Addn. at a cost of $250.00 was referred to the Com- missioner of Public Works for investigation and report. Applications of the Pacific Gas and Electric Co. No. 282 qnd 283 for permit. to do certain pole work on Buchon Street between Carmel and.Beach Streets and on Fletcher Street between Santa Barbara Ave. and Emily Streets were referred to the Commissioner of Public Works, with power to act, on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil. The following applications for sidewalk and curbing were granted on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil - work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer: L. T. Curtright - To out 8 ft, of curb for driveway on the west side of Cholro Street between Murray and Mission Streets R. 0. Forter - Sidewalk on the west side of Ida St. between Peach and MillSts. R. 0. Porter - Sidewalk on the east side of Ida St. between Peach and Mill Sts. George Waugh = Sidewalk on the east side of Ida St. between leach and Mill Sts. Petition of the Valley Electric Co. for permitto hang neon sign for Reeves Shoe Co. at 760 Higuera St. was granted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R.P.Howell. The petition of the Neon Sales & Service for permit to hang a double faced neon sign for Harry Norton at 898 Higuera St. was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report, on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by 'N. H. Brazil. The Merchandising Bond of the National ''hoe Co. Ltd. dba as Reeve's Shoe Store in the amount of $200.00 with the Hartford - Accident and Indemnity Co. as surety, was received and on motion of R. F. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil the surety was accepted, bond approved and license ordered issued. The application of Herbert Snyder for license for two taxicabs was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report on motion of R. P. Howell -., seaoided by W. H. Brazil. The application of Cery j'.rcaina for license for Cigar Stand at 166 Higuera St. as granted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C.'Kennedy. Communication received from the State Board of Equalization filing notice of Itransfer of "On sale Beer" license from Chas. Craig and Ruth Scott at 1250 Monterey St. to Eugene E. Gregg at 162 Higuera St. same was protested and on motion of Ralph U. Kennedy, seconded by Joseph Leary the Chief of Police was instructed to file the necessary form with the State Board of Equalization. 1 Communication: received from the Department of Public Health, reporting on the rat extermination campaign which they conducted was ordered received and filed on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil. The report of the City Clerk for the month of October, 1941, and the report of the City Collector and Police Dept. for the month of November, 1941 were received and ordered filed. The unpaid license list of the City Collector for the October, 1941 quarter Guas received and presented to the Police Department for collection on motion of W. H.Bra seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. @laims against the City for the month of November, 1941 were ordered paid, subject to the approval of the heads of the departments and the Mayor. Petition was presented by the Pareht & Teacher's Association by Mrs. Richard !F1illett, of the Fremont School District, requesting regular directed traffic assistance by an officer at the intersection of Santa Rosa and Peach Streets; after discussion, and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil, the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety was directed to see that the pupils going to and from school °were given suf- ficient police protection at Santa Rosa and Peach Streets as requested in the petition. The application of the Pacific Tel. and Tel. Co. for permit to do certain excavation work on Morro Street between Mill and Palm Streets was granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil; work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. The petition of H. L. Kemper for permit to remove tree in parkway on Essex Street was granted on motion of R.P. Howell, seconded by W: H. Brazil; work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. The petition of John Enos for permit to install underground gas tank at 784 Buchon St. was granted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell; work to be done under the supervision of the City Engim er and existing ordinance. The petition of the San Luis Obispo Livestock Assn. for extension of water line was held over. The petition of the Valley Electric Co. to install a marquee at Perrot's Grill on Higuera St. was granted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell. The petition of Rose A. Durand for permit to build a fence was granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil, Re: Communication from Castro Chrome Syndicate requesting building site and ter rights from the City of San Luis Obispo: On motion of W. H. Brazil,, seconded by R. P 11, same was denied, without prejudice. Commissioner R. P. Howell reported that the Cline's Electric Shop quoted a price of $179.00 for the necessary labor of installing and-removing the light stringers for street decorations for Christmas. This being the best pricecbtained and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brtxzil, the Cline's Electric was ordered to hang lights r the supervision of the Commissioner of Public Works. The proposed Food and Drink ordinance was again presented by-the City Attorney t for lack of agreement of the Council the Mayor requested Commissioner Joseph Leary to onfer with Mr. Hanson of the Health Department and present a revised ordinance. On motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by R. P. Howell, the City Attorney was in- ructed to draw up a resolution, raising the Building Inspector's Salary from $200.00 per th to $225.00 per month as of January 1st, 1942. On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary the City Attorney was in- tructed to draw up a resolution, raising the City Collector's salary from $125.00 to 140.00 per month as of January 1, 19420 I 1 L_ 1 1 Ll
