Howell, Ralph.C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Absent: None The following applications for permit to build were granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. I.I. Brazil: Southern Pacific R.R.- To erect a retaining wall on Lots 7,8,9,Block 3, Buena.Vista Addn. Cost 1000.00 A. F & L. Local Labor Council No. 1464 - Small Office bldg. Pt. of Blk. 46, " 2500.00 John Burch - To move Building on part of Block 61, - John Burch -Addn. of 2 rooms to present bldg. Part of Blk. 619 " 750.00 The application of Pacific Gas and Electric Co. for permit to do certain pole work on Andrews and Conejo Streets, was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works, with power to act, on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell. The application of the Union Oil Co. for permit to renew telephone pole on north corner of Essex and Monterey Streets was granted on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil; work to be done under the supervision of the City-Engineer. The application of Margaret M. Hansen for city license to operate rooming house at ;203 Buchon St. and the application of West Coast Photo by Harry."". Greenberg and Wm. McMillan, for License to operate photo gallery at 100 Chorro St. was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report. The petition of Mary Walter for permission to remove four trees from parkway at 896 Buchon Street was granted on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by 19. H. Brazil. The petition of Chas. Walter for permission to remove two trees from park -I way in front of residence at 1443 Marsh Street was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works, with power to act, on motion of Ralph d. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil. The application of Severino Masdonati for registration as a Class "E" contractor, together with U. S. Fidelity and Guaranty Co. bond in the amount of $500.00 and registration fee of $15.00 received and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. F. Brazil it was ordered that the surety be accepted., bond approved and registration - granted. The release form filed by the U. 3. Fidelity and Guaranty Co. together with their check in the amount of $200.00, payable to the City of San Luis Qbispo for payment on the Merchandise bond of J. H. Morris was ordered signed by the Mayor and City Clerk, on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil. Communication received from the City Police Auxiliary inviting the Council to a card party to be given January 27, 1942; same was ordered filed. Communication received from the State of California, Division of High- ways, District 5, under date of January 19, 1942 relative to the- "Defense Highway Act of 1941 "; same was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works and City Attorney for in- vestigation and report, on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded•by W. H. Brazil. Communication received from the Texas Co. by Clyde T. O'Nan, asking per- mission to place signs at the corner of Santa Rosa and Murray Streets and at Murray and Stenner Streets, for advertising purposes. The petition was denied, without prejudice. Notification received from the State Board of Equalization, under date of January 22,=1942 authorizing the transfer of "On Sale-Beer" license from George M, Taylor at 850 Marsh St. to William M. Wallace dba Sandwich Shop. .Same was ordered received and filed. 72 G Re: Petition'f rom M. S. Azevedo to remove trees from parkway was granted on motion of R. P. Howell,'seconded by W. H.. Brazil. and filed. The Treasurer's report for the month of December, 1941 was ordered received Communication received from the Democratic County Central Committee under date of January 25, 1942, urging action by the City Council in obtaining land for a Federal Airport was ordered received and filed, on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R.P. Howell. Mr. J. E. McClure, ant of the Chamber of Commerce, appeared before the Council and presented a petition, listing about 400 signers, urging the Council to exert every possible effort to provide funds to purchase land for an Airport; same was ordered received and filed on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil. On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, the Mayor and City Attorney were directed to meet with the District Attorney to outline a purchase program to be presented at a joint meeting, before the City Council and the Board of Supervisors at a' later date: Mrs.M. H. Stearns appeared before the Council asking them to-revise Ordinance No. 235 Oew Series) passed by the City Council on January 18, 1942, stating she thought it unjust to operators who try to comply with the wishes of law enfcm ement agencies. Resolution No. 650 (New Series) - A Resolution accepting the offer of the United States- of America was introduced, passed and adopted upon the following roll call vote: Ayes: `r+.H.Brazil, R.r.Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: None On motion of R.P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil the Commissioner of 6upplies was instructed to purchase-scales and screens ( for testing concrete) for the City Engineer. Joseph Leary voted "No ". The Commissioner of Finance was authorized to purchase fire insurance on the new Mack Fire trucks, on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell. On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P.
