Engineer, Leonard Lenger, reported that more than two - thirds of the new city
eater lines are now entrenched.

The minutes of June 15th and 22nd were read and approved as read.
On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by V1. 11. Brazil, the following applications
for permit to build were granted:
Victor Torres - Living Zuarters - Lot 20,.Block 11; 'Seills Addn. Cost $ 475.00
L. B. Cook - Temporary shelter for car - Lot 9, Blk. 4, Buena Vista " 45.00
Sam Molinari - Rebuild garage - Pt. of Block 50, " 45.00
D. A. Fornor - To .move blda. from Emerson School Grounds, Lot 409
Block 2, Arlington Addn. -
Permit filed by I. 0. 0. F. Lodge #168 to ramp curb for driveway on Dana
Street. between Nipomo Street and Stenner Creek was granted on motion of R.P. Howell, second
by W. E. Brazil; work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer.
The following applications for permits to connect with sewer were granted on
motion of R. Y. Howell, seconded by W.H. Brazil:
John C. Bailar - To connect with sewer on Hutton Street between High and
3andercock Streets.
A. F. Schleim - To connect with sewer on Park Street between Phillips Lane
and Fillcrest.
The application filed by Rundle's Inc. to hang a Neon sign for Beno's Army
land Navy Store at 840 Monterey Street was granted; work to be done under the supervision of
the city engineer and existing ordinance.
208 The following applications were referred to the Commissioner of Public Health
and Safety for investigation and report:

The application of Harold E. Johnson for registrationi as a Class "E" c on-
tractor, together with U.3.Fidelity and Guaranty Co. bond in the amount of $500.00 and
registration fee of $15.00 received and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H.
Brazil it was ordered that the surety be accepted, bond approved and registration granted.
Notification received from the State Board of Equalization re: transfer of
,?On -Sale Hear" license from E.D. Bray to I. F. lNolting was referred to the Commissioner of
Public Health and Safety for report.
Com�unication received from J. Earle Boyce, Treasurer, advising the Council
of the delivery of U. S. Defense Bonds and that same have been placed in the safe deposit
box in the Security First National Bank. Same was ordered filed.
Com_- nunication received from the War production -Board, '. ashington, D.C..
requesting the City of San Luis Obispo to deny applications for building permits as out-
lined in Conservation Order L -41; same was referred to the Building Inspector for study
and report back to the Council.
Letter received from the California Safety Council soliciting the City of San
Luis Obispo to become a member of said organization. Same was ordered received and filed.
The claim filed against the city in the amount of $3000.00 by Anita M. Unangs
and Edwin "'alter Unangst for damages sustained caused by the city excavating on Johnson
Ave. was referred to the City Engineer for complete report and to present the Council with
a map showing the property.
On motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil the following reports
were ordered received and filed:

Claims against the city for the month of June were ordered paid subject to t
approval of the heads of the respective departments and the Mayor.
Mr. W. T. Shipsey, Library trustee, and Miss Doris Garcelon, Librarian,
appeared before the Council and presented a tentative budget for the year 1942 -43 and
on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell same was ordered received and filed.
Miss Garcelon asked the Council for street signs indicating the location of
the library to be placed at Higuera and Marsh Streets;.Monterey and Chorro and Higuera and
Broad Streets, stating that many new residents to the city are not familiar with the
location. Commissioner Leary was requested to inquire re; the purchase of same.
On motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by ?V. H. Brazil, Commissioner -Kennedy
was requested to secure rates on War Insurance on city property and report back to the
Counc il:
The petition filed by Cline's Electric to hang a double faced neon sign for
Bradleys Dress Shop at 1118 Garden Street was granted on motion of W.H.Brazil, seconded by
Ralph C. Kennedy.
The applications of Cery Arcaina for city licenses for Billiards and fool,
Cigar Stor and Soft Drinks at 834 Palm Street were granted on motion of VI.H.Brazil,
seconded by R. P. Ho%,jell.
Re: Communication from Steve Zegar relative to cruising taxicabs in the city
of San Luis Obispo. Same was ordered received and filed on motion of ,V.H.Brazil, seconded
by R.P. Howell.
