City Council met in regular session - R.P. Howell, Vice President, presiding.
Present: Yf.H.Brazil, R.P.Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, Joseph Leary
Absent: F:C.Kimball
The following application for permit to build was granted on motion of Ralph
C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil:
Tim Sheehy - Add porch on existing bldg. Lot 16, Block 5, Caudill Tr. Cost $ 75.00
The application of Albert 0. Ericson for neIrmit to move bldg. from Pismo Beach
to 673 Caudill Street, San Luis Obispo, was referred to the Commissioner of Public :Yorks,
%,vith power to act, on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil.
The application of C. C. Lung to reconstruct driveway: ramp,and broken sidewalk
on the north side of Buchon Street between Garden and Chorro Streets was granted on motion
of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil; with the provision that work be done under
the supervision of the City Engineer.
The following applications were granted on motion of 1W. H. Brazil, seconded by
Ralph C. Kennedy:

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. - permit /to set 45 fbD t pole on Broad and Lincoln Streets
- permit No. 287 to replace pole on Higuera St. 280
feet South of Short Street.
The application of Rev. Fred J. ;^Ialdvogel for permit to remove sign from 991
Osos Street and rehang at 920 Monterey Street for the Foursquare Church was referred to the
Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report, on motion of Ralph
C. Kennedy, seconded by W.H.,Brazil.
The :Merchandising Bond of Mrs. Alice R. Johnson in the amount of $200. with Mrs.
S. M. Robbins and Dr. A. B. Martin as surety, was received, and on motion of Ralph C.
Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil, the surety was accepted, bond approved and license
ordered issued.
The reports of the City Collector, the Police Judge and Police Department for
the month of September 1942 were ordered received and filed.
Communication received from the County of San Luis Obispo requesting a permit
to place new sidewalk and curbing on Osos Street and to do certain street work,more
particularly described in communication; After discussion, same was referred to the Com-
sioner of Public !:Yorks, R.P.Howell, the City Engineer and the City Attorney for in-
estigation and report bat's to the Council.
Claims against the City for the month of, September 1942 were ordered paid subject
o the aoproval of the heads of the respective-departments and the Mayor, with exception
f the claim of Hollis Brown, against the payment of which Joseph Leary voted "No ".
226 The application of Mabel McClure for license to operate a Lodging mouse at
1635 Chor ro St. was granted on motion of VI. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy.
The applications of Mrs. Ciperina Ramil for a Restaurant, Cigars Sideline and
Soft Drin!s at 879 Palm Street was again held over..
The application of Lena Uwanowich for a city license to conduct the business
of Palmistry was denied, on motion of 5V. H. Brazil, seconded by .Toseph Leary.
Re: Communication from 0. d. Williams relative to condition of water main on
Meinecke Street was ordered received and filed.
Communication from Flo Lund of the PJomen's Field Hospital and Ambulance Corp.
asking permission to conduct a public drive for funds was granted on motion of IN. H.Brazil,
seconded °by Ralph C. Kennedy.
The payroll deduction plan for the purchase of war bonds by city employees as
provided in a resolution drawn up by the City Attorney was killed when the motion of Ralph
C. Kenne--dy .vas lost for want of a second.
Re: Communication from City of Los Angeles relative to 1/2 cent out of 3 cent
State Sales Tax was again held over.
Commissioner Brazil reported on the Dodge Auxiliary truck; stating that, of
six calls in September, and Dodge responded to, and satisfactorily handled four calls,
making an approximate saving to the city of $35.00.
On motion of vd. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, Commissioner Howell
was instructed to have the Water Department replace 700 ft. of the South Broad Street
water line extension ending near the S.L.O. Brick Works Office, with a 6" main using
second hand pipe now in stock and to have the Atascadero Water Co. mechanic ditch digger
to dig the trench. Joseph Leary voted "No ".
Commissioner Ralph C. Kennedy reminded the Council that the city's fire insurance
would expire on November 19th, 1942 and he will call for bids in the near future.
On advice of Commissioner Kennedy, Commissioner W.H.Brazil was instructed to
contact the Pacific Gas and Electric Co. and have reflector markers placed on the poles
on lower Higuera Street.
