"Stop Signs" to be installed at various locations in the 273 City of San Luis Obispo was brought up, andefter considerable discussion it was held over until the next meeting. The Council' authorized the following changes for base 'pay for the following employees, as of July 1st, 1943: Charlotte Miller - From 125.00 per month to $ 130.00 per month Margaret Neck " 140.00 ," " "` 142.50 " " Norma Sims " 105.00 n :r n 112.50 " n Evelyn Rothberg " 75¢ per hr: " 80¢ per hr. Adeline Bassi " 60¢ " " n 65¢ " " The City :attorney was reauested to bring in Resolution covering a 6% general raise for all city employees to be i;nmm as `,.Iartine Emergency Measure" effective as of August 1, 1943. Davis was granted for permit to move a house from the old Hathway property on Murray and Grove Streets to the Yoakum Tract, on motion of ?.P.Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. The application of the Southern Counties Gas-Co. for permit to break pavement )n Broad Street between Francis and Lawrence Drive was granted on motion of Ralph C.Keneedy seconded by R. P. Howell; work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. Kea nedy, the following matters were ordered received and filed: PJotification from the State Board of Equalization for transfer of license for "On Sale Beer anti !;Nine" from A.M. Report of the Police Dept. for the month of July, 1943 Report of the Police Judge for the month of July, 1943 Communication from i.;etals Reserve Co. re: rental of city property The communication from George V. Castagnola, 131 Anacapa St., Santa Barbara requesting refund on city truck license in the amount of $4.00 for the July quarter, 1943 was referred to the City Collector for reply ( not allowed; operated in first part of quarter) on motion of R.P.Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary. Communication received from the County of San Luis Obispo asking the city -to provide miscellaneous supplies. at a cost of $''300 to be used at the General Hospital ( decontamination station) was referred to the Commissioner of Supplies. Petition was received from Ethel Bradbury et al relative to the opening of Humbert Ave; same .%vas referred to the Commissioner of Public Works for investigation and, report. Claims against the City for the month of July, 1943 were ordered paid, subject to the approval of the heads of the respective departments and the Mayor. Or, L'.otion of Joseph Lek -ry, seconded by R. P. Howell, N. G. Allen was disr :iissed from service as a volunteer firer-_an, due to disability as of August 1, 1943. J. H. Miller appeared before the Council surgestinf_ the city operate a home for working girls stating it is the city's responsibility for their welfare and supervision and also recommended that the bus service be continued until midnight to provide transportation for young women who work•late and for persons attending the last show at theatres. Ivlayor Kimball stated that a recommendation would be made to the Bus Co. for additional service. The applications of Chas. Jackson for Restaurant, Cigars Sideline, and Soft Drinks at 866 Palm St. gas denied on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by Ralph C. i.ennedy. The transfer of Lodging House license from 11, N. Davis to D. G. Patterson at 1007 Chorro St. was again held over. on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, the following licenses were granted: A.A. I.enr_edy, seconded by R. P. Howell, it was ordered that the certified check: in the amount of $200 posted by Jordano Bros. of Santa Barbara as surety for I : :erchandising license was accepted and license ordered issued. Ordinance No. ?50 (New Series) - - An Ordinance providing for a-reduced water rate and refund for water used in maintaining wartime Victory Uardens, and providing penalties for the violation of such ordinance, was finally passed on motion of H.P.Howell, secondedby Ralph U.
