City Hall, hionday, Feb. 72 1944 - 7:30 P. M. 9.9 ()
The City Council met in regular session - Mayor F. C. Kimbell presiding.
Present: R.P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary, Clyde T. OfNan
Absent: None
The minutes of January 17th were read and approved as read.
On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy the following permits
to build were granted:

The application for building permit filed by Marion Norton for general
repairs and remodel - Lots 1 & 2, Block 86 at a cost of $300 was - referred to Commissioner
R. P. Howell, with power to act, on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan.
The application for sidewalk and curbing filed by Harlan E. Ritchey on the
East side of Chorro St. between Walnut and Fig Streets was referred to Comcaissi over R. P.
Howell, with power to act, on motion of Ralph C. Kea nedy, seconded by R. P. Howell.
The petition filed by Shell Oil Co. for permission to make excavation to
repair gasoline tank under sidewalk and replace walk on Lots l & 2, Block 23 was granted
on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy; work to be done under the super-
vision of the Engineering Department.
The petition filed by '+'Jillis H. Chase for permission to remove tree from
parkway at intersection of Islay and Santa Rosa Street was granted on motion of R. P.
Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy.
The petition filed by Bud Rose Sign Service for permit to move neon sign
from 1022 Morro St, to 1057 Monterey St. was.referred to Com- :issioner of Public Health
and Safety, with power to act, on motion of R.P.Hoviell•, seconded by Clyde T. Man.
Application for sidewalk filed by John S. Schmuchel for a distance of 50 ft.
on the east side of Beebee St. betw:;en Sandercock and Branch Streets was granted on motion
of. R. P. Howe 11, s�,conded by Clyde T. O'Nan; work to be done under the supervision of the
Engineering Department.
The following'applicatians for City licenses were referred to Commissioner of
Public Health and Safety for investigation and report:

matters were ordered received and filed:

Communication addressed to Chief of Police, B. J. Epperly, received from

splendid ,Aiork in policing the property during their recent fire.

Communication from the Office of Price Administration Board 10.1 re:
additional three months appointment of Vera Russell, it was ordered that this appointment
be continued for another 90 days as of January 21, 1944, on motion of R. P. Howell,
seconded by Joseph Leary.
Communication received from Hollis Brown, Police Officer, asking the Council
for a leave of absence for one year, due to ill health, was granted on motion of Joseph
Leary, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy.
On motion of Ra ;ph C. Kennedy, seconded by Joseph Leary, it was ordered
the Insurance Policies covering the'1940 and 1941 Mack Fire Truck written by the Con-
necticut Indemnity Co. be accepted. Motion carried.
Communication received from the County Tax Collector relative to the sale
of property ( Parcel #3) in the City of San Luis Obispo in Beebee & Phillips Addn., deeded
to the State, and asking for the City's authorization to sell at Public Auction; on motion
of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R. P. Howell, the-City Clerk was instructed to notify
the County Tax.Collector, the City protests the sale.
Claims against the City for the month of January 1944 were ordered paid,
subject to the approval of the heads of the respective departments and the Mayor.
The application for Rooming House filed by Eric dickenden at 1026 Chorro St.
was granted providing they install 2 fire escapes as required by the State Housing Authorii
upon the f=llowin;- roll call vote:

On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy the building permit
filed by Cecil Evans for remodeling interior for t,4o sleeping rooms and living room -
Part of Block 149 Harford Adan. at a cost of $300 was granted.
The application of Herman Rosenkranz for Rooming House License at 1300 Broad
St. was referred to Commissioner of Public Health and,Safety, with power to act, and confer
with the Fealth Department regarding toilet facilities.
Re: Communication from Edith M. Hoover relative to the extension of Breck
Street together with Communication from the City Engineer, Kenneth Beck, submitting
engineer's estimate for improving Breck Street was ordered received and filed for further
reference, on motion of R::lph C. r= ennedy, seconded by R. P. Howell.
