Kennedy, F.C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Absent: Clyde T. O'Nan The minutes of May 1st were read and approved as read. On motion of R. P. Rowell, seconded by Joseph Leary the following petitions were granted; work to be done under the supervision of the. Engineering De- partment: Southern Counties Gas Co.- To install mains on certain streets Cline's Electric °Co. - To hang neon sign for Ramils Cafe at 891 Palm St. Notification received from the.State Board of Equalization re: license to Leslie H. Ellsworth, dba Les's Grocery at 1901 Broad St. for "Ret. Pkg. Off- Sale Beer and Wine" license was ordered received and filed on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by R. P. Howell. The following transfer of city licenses were granted on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by R. P. Howell: Bee Hive Cafe license transferred from F. J. Barcellos to M. Dorshkind United Cigar Store " " Barcellos & Cook to M. Dorshkind & R. Bay United Meat Mkt. at 714 Higuera St. from V. H. Branson to Leo Molinari Communication received from Harry.N. Jenks relative to report on the Sausage Disposal Flant was ordered received and filed on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary. Communication received from Kenneth Beck re: Fire tower at City Hall was referred to Commissioner Kennedy, with power to act, on motion of R.P.Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary. Communication received.from Kenneth Beck re: Stenner Creek Bridge at Murray Ave; same was referred to Commissioner Howell with instructions to post the bridge with load limit signs and action for repairs.. Leo Osborne was appointed Pound Master and Janitor as of May 15th, 1944 at base pay of $155o per month; Mr. Milton Bi.ekell was appointed regular Police Officer as an experienced man at base pay of $175.00 per month dtarting May 16th, 1944, on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by R. P. Howell. The following matters were ordered received and filed on motion of R. P. Howell., seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy: Report of the Police Dept, for month of April, 1944 " " " City Clerk for month of April, 1944 Contract from Union Sugar Co. to grow sugar beets on sewer farm during the season 1944. The City Clerk was given permission to purchase a book map from the Sanborn Map Co. of San Francisco for use yin the City Clerk's Office, May 17, 1944. Russell Bros. Circus was granted permission for circus showing on Communication received from the San Luis Obispo City Schools relative tc closing of streets in the Schwartz Addition was again referred to Commissioner R.P. Howell. Petition from Mary F. Ritchey relative to removing trees along Fig Sto was again held over. The petition of N. E. Hirsch relative to culvert from George St. to Upham St. was referred to the City Clerk, with instructions to notify Mr. Hirsch the City was not able to do the work at this time due to the prohibitive cost and lack of man power. 1 1 1
