The matter was referred to the Commissioner of Public health and Safety for investigation and report. Present: R.P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary, Clyde T. O'Nan Absent: None The minutes of August 21st, 1944 were read and approved as read. The application for building permit filed by'Dr. Edison French to remodel bathroom and build closet on porch on Lot H & G, Block 2, Central Addition at a cost of $250, was granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. The application of :'J.'b'1. Gaskell to move building from South Highway outside the City to part of Lot 2, Block 3, i:orto n Addition was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works, with power to act,.on motion of Clyde T. O'Nan, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. The following applications for sidewalk and curbing were granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan; work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineering Department: T. R. DeStael - 50 ft. of 5 ft, sidewalkon the west side of Chorro St. between Mt. Pleasanton and Mission Streets H. W. Takken - 53 ft, sidewalk on the east side of Chorro St. between Mission and Venable Streets H.W. Takken - 96 ft. sidewalk on the South side of Mission St. between Lincoln and Chorro Streets The petition filed by H. Rosenkranz to break pavement to repair sewer at 1300 Broad St. was referred to the Commissbner of Public Works, with power to act, on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by Joseph Leary. The petition filed by Smee.Plumbing Co. for sewer repair at 868 Mill Street was granted on motion of 'R. P. Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary. W. :'7allace dba Dad's Place at 589 Higuera St. to Rex E. Mavis. Transfer of Restaurant, Cigars Sideline and Soft Drinks License from J.V1. Wallace to Ida Mazza at 995 Higuera St. dba Chet's Bar -B -Q. Transfer of Hotel License from W. C. Culbertson dba San Luis Hotel at 697 Higuera St.. to Gertrude Field. Transfer of Checker Cab Co. ( Neece Bros. ) to Ray and Jack Riggen at 1088 Higuera St. The following notifications from the State Board of Equalization were ordered received and filed on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by Ralph -C. Kennedy: "On Sale Beer" license from Annabelle Warren, Alice Harris & Beatrice B. Hendricks to Annabelle Warren & Alice E. Harris, dba "Sister's Inn" at'208 Higuera St. "On Sale Beer" License from Hobart W. Wallace to Rex E. Davis dba Dad's Place at 589 Higuera St. Communication from Kenneth Beck, City Engineer, re: Southern Pacific Sludge sump 9 on the easterly end of Alexander Ave. was again referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report. Communication from Hollis Brown tendering his resignation as Police Officer to become effective August 31, 1944 was accepted and letter ordered filed on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan. Communication from J.M. Hayden, Clearlake Oaks, Calif. objecting to the cost of burning grass on his property was ordered received and filed. Communication from H. B. Adams relative to cost of burning grass on his property; it was ordered that his bill be reduced to $12.00, on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. Communication was ordered filed. The communication from the San Luis Obispo City Schools re: the closing of Kentuck3 St. at S. P. Crossing together with petition filed by the residents from the Arlington and Phillips Addn. requesting the opening of the crossing was presented. The matter was re- ferred to the City Attorney with instructions to confer with the Dist. Attorney and to take the necessary steps to establish this r /w. The postal cards received from Nola and Clyde Compton protesting the licensing of card tables were ordered received and filed and -the Clerk was instructed to send copies of Ordinance to the correspondents, citing section 3 of the Ordinance on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan. Communication addressed to the Mayor from the Board of Fire Underwriters of the acific was read before the Council in which they assured him their engineets would make a grading inspection of the City of San Luis Obispo in the near future to determine he fire insurance rates for the City. Communication from C. A. Maino offering to purchase a lot owned by the City at the junction of Marsh and Higuera Streets was referred to the Commnissioner of Finance Ralph C. Kennedy. The reports of the City Collector and the Police Dept. for the month of August 1944 were ordered received and filed. Claims against the City for the month of August, 1944 were ordered paid subject to the approval of the heads of the respective departments and the Mayor. The application of G. S. Edwards -and Frank W. Imil for license for parcel delivery dba "Glide Parcel Delivery" at 770 Higuera St. was granted on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. 1 1
