HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/04/1945388 Housing Authority,to allot funds when the funds-become available, for the financial assistance of low -rent housing projects for sub - standard families to wit: 90 housing units estimated to cost $360,000. and that the Mayor be authorized to'sign the application for allotment of funds on behalf of the City, a signed copy of said appli- cation to be filed and retained in the office of the City Clerk for future refer$nce, upon the following roll call vote: Ayes: G.W.Baker, Ralph C. Kennedy, Clyde T. O'Nan Noes: R.P.Howell Absent: None Fred L. Gist not voting On motion of Clyde T. O'Nan, seconded by G.W.Baker, the Fire Chief was authorized to attend the Annual Convention of Fire Chiefs at Le Bee, Calif. on May 26th and 27th and the City to defray the expenses. By common consent of the Council the Commissioner of Public health and Safety, Clyde T. O'Nan was authorized to confer with the Division of Highways Engineer, regarding Traffic Control Device for corner of Santa Rosa and Marsh Streets. On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Clyde T. Mrs. Angelina Caccia- 50 ft. of 4 ft. park sidewalk on the west side of Osos St. between Mill and Peach Streets The petition of Albert Rordorf to remove tree from parkway area at 1641 Garden Street was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works, with power to act, on motion of Fred L. The following applications for city licenses were referred to the Commissioner ofl Public Health and Safety for investigation qnd report: Ed Lee - Skill Ball Parlor - 886 Monterey St. Bingo Game - 2700 Broad St. The applications of Lupe Cota for Restaurant, Cigars Sideline and Soft Drinks licenses, dba "The Arizona Cafe" at 562 Higuera St. was referred to the Commissioner of lic Health and Safety, with poser to act, on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by G. W. Baker. Notifications received from the State Board of Equalization for the following licenses: "Off Sale Beer and Wine" License for James F. Bond and Ruth A. Bond, dba "Bond's Grocery" at 1725 Broad St. "On Sale Beer" License for Leo Mendez & Lupe Cota, dba " Arizone Cafe, at 562 Higuera St. above licenses were orderedreceived and filed on motion of Clyde T. O'Nan, seconded R. P. Howell. The application for transfer of license of the Polly Cafe at 412 Higuera St. Colleen A. Whittle to Lee Darnell was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health d Safety for investigation and report on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Fred L.Gist. Gragg re: application for position as Build- Inspector was read to the Council and on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by G.W.Baker t was ordered that Mr. L. A. Resolution No. 743 (New Series) - Resolution of the City Council of the City of an Luis Obispo approving Memorandum of Agreement for expenditure of 1/4 cent gas tag llocated for State Highways was adopted on motion of R. O'Nan oes: None sent: None Claims against the City for the month of May, 1945 were ordered paid, subject to the approval of the heads of the respective departments and the Mayor. 3 0 Communication from Mrs. Clarinda Drake, Chairman, Nursery School., Junior Matron's Club, requesting the City to cooperate with the City School Board in the support of a summer nursery school by supplying funds in the amount of $225 for a six weeks period to a qualified teacher was read to the Council and on motion of R. P. .Howell, seconded by G. W. Baker the City Clerk was authorized to hire Miss Mary M. Kegley as Director of School Nursery to serve 5 days per week from 9 to 12 - salary to be paid out of the Park, ground and Recreation Fund. Richard Harris, Attorney, representing the Mission Cab Co. appeared before the ouncil, requesting an official taxi .zone for taxi stand for.the Mission Cab Co. in front the Greyhound Depot; Mayor Ralph C. Kennedy appointed Clyde T. O'Nan, G.W.Baker and L. Gist to make a survey and submit their recommendation to the Council regarding the zoning of a taxi stand for the Mission Cab Co. Petition filed by Clines Electric for permit to change location of Neon Sign for & K Liquor Store from 886 P.ionterey St. to 1118 I,iorro St. was granted on Motion of Clyde . O'Nan, seconded by R. P. N. Curtis & Sons relative to purchase of resuscitator s ordered filed and on motion of Clyde T. O'Nan, seconded by Fred L. Gist, the Commissio Supplies was instructed to purchase (1) E & J Resuscitator, also necessary accessories, cl,gding case, tank and fittings - purchase to be paid out of the Public Improvement and tterment Fund. Commissioner R. P. Howell, was authorized to remove 6 inch line to Dalidio Booster pipe to be used in replacing city water lines. On motion of R. P. Ho,^jell, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan, the City Engineer was in- tructed to write to the Division of Highways, requesting two inspections on highway urfacing job and also to request the testing of materials to be done by Highway Division t Sacramento laboratory. On motion of Clyde.T. O'Nan, seconded by G.1% Baker, Oscar H. Barnes was appointed pity Sanitary inspector, starting dune 11th, at a base pay of x;160* per month. The commissioner of Supplies was authorized to purchase proper equipment for fic control to be installed at Santa Rosa and Marsh Streets. Commissioner of Public Health and Safety was given power to grant permission for a rade, of the Purple Heart to be held Saturday, June 9th. On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by G. W.
