City Hall, Monday, Oct. 1, 1945 - 7:30 P. M.
The City Council met in regular session - Mayor Ralph C. Kennedy presiding.

The minutes of Sept. 17th and Sept. 24th, 1945 were read and approved as r
On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Clyde T. _O'Nan the following appli-
cations for sidewalk and curbing were granted; work to be done under the supervision of
the City Engineering Dept* and to conform with walks in the district:
Anita Hathway - 85 ft. of curb and gutter on the Easterly side of Ellen Way
between Third St. and Nly end of Ellen Way
Anita Hathway- 85 ft. of curb and gutter on the No. side of Third St. between
Ellen Flay and Hathway Ave.
Peter Zuiderwieg- 50 ft. of 5 ft. sidewalk on the east side of Beebee St. between
Branch and Sandercock Streets
The following miscennaleous petitions were granted on motion of R. P.
Howell, seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan; work to be done under the supervision of the city
engineering department:

Herbert Line
- Construct 60 ft. concrete culvert at 521 Hathway Ave.
Smee Plumbing - Petition to repair sewer at 645 Branch St.
The application of John Barnett Redd Jr. for Taxi Cab license at 859
Marsh St. was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation
and report on motion of R. P. Hornell, seconded by G. 11. Baker.
The Bond of Seth Kinney as principal and the American Surety Co. of New
York as surety, in the amount of $1000.covering the office of Building Inspector was
approved by the Mayor and City Council.
Notification from the State Board of Equalization for "On Sale Beer"
License to Annabelle 6'Jarren and Alice E. Harris, dba Sister's Inn at 208 Higuera St.
was ordered received and filed.
Communication received from Vim. H. Nuss requesting permission to remove
tr ®es from parkway along Lots 15,23, and 24 of•Loma Vista Addn. The request was granted
on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by G. W. Baker.
Communication received from Johi J. Lennon making application for Gugrd
at school crossing; same was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety
for investigation and report on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by G. u'J.Baker.
Communication from 01 H. Barnes, City Sanitary Inspector, requesting pro-
vision be made for car allowance in connection with his job, and on motion of G. W,Baker,
seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan, and by common consent of the Council, a monthly allowance
of •`,p30.00 was authorized.
Communication from Wm. Allen and 1'9. George Lutzi offering their services
as Architects.for the new City Hall was ordered received and filed.
Notice to A. E. priallagh, appointing and authorizing him to sit as Judge
of the Police Court from Oct. 1st to Oct. 319 1945 was ordered received and filed on
motion of Clyde T. O'Nan, seconded by R. P. Howell,

420 Communication from Chief of Police of Santa Maria endorsing the Culinary
Alliance Dance was ordered received and filed on motion of Clyde T. O'Nan, seconded by
R. P. Howell.
Communication from Kenneth Beck, City Engineer, submitting final estimate
on contract for the Improvement of Higuera, Marsh, Monterey and Santa Rosa Streets and
showing amount due contractor ( Brown, Doko and Baun) and recommending the Council to
accept same was presented to the Council, and on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by G.W.
Baker, the Mayor was authorized to approve the estimate and the City Clerk instructed to
draw a warrant in the amount of $7,856.79 - amount due on estimate.
Communication received from Edward Boyle showing report on funds collected
to date for the War Memorial Fund, World 'Mar II, was presented to the Council, requesting
the City to have plans and specifications drawn at the city's expense; matter discussed
and by common consent of the Council the request was referred to the City Engineer,
Ralph C.
instructing him to have sketches drawn and submit them to the Council,- Llayor /Kennedy,
Commissioner Clyde T. O'Nan and Commissioner G.'Vi.Baker to cooperate with the City Engineer
Communication from J.T. Kirkpatrick tendering his resignation as City
Fireman as of Oct. 159 1945 ws accepted on motion of Clyde T. O'Nan, seconded by G.W.Baker,

Communication from Eagles Magazine, Milwaukee, Wis. as: :ing for photos
and history background on San Luis Obispo was referred to the Commissioner of Supplies,
with instructions to present to the Chamber of Commerce on motion of R. P. Howell,
seconded by Clyde T. O'Nan.
Claims against the City for the month of Sept. were allowed, subject
to the approval of the heads of the respective departments and the T-;ayor.
The applications for renewal of licenses for the Oct. quarter, 1945 -::Pere
granted on motion of Clyde T. O'Nan, seconded by G. 14. Baker.
Petition of Geo. Bettencourt for sewer connection on Highway 101 at the
South City Limits was denied on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by F. L.Gist.
The application of Wm. A. Rowan, 1437 Nipomo St. dba San Luis Obispo
Parcel Delivery was granted on motion of Clyde T. O'Nan, seconded by F. L. Gist, also,
appnlication of M. C. Hutton for Educational Farm Exhibit in the 1000 Block on Higuera
St. for the week of Oct. 1, to Oct. 7th, 1945.

Re: Federal Works Agency Advance of $4000 - The City Clerk was instructed
to write the Federal Works Agency explaining the delay.
Petition of F. H. McBee for sign at 1131 Broad St. was granted on motion
of Clyde T. O'Nan, seconded by G. W. Baker.
Petition of 0. J. Laurent recuesting to extend sewer line on Johnson Ave.
between Palm and Mill St.was denied on motion of R. P. Howell; seconded by F. L. Gist.
