HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/19/194649 City Hall , Friday July 19, 1946 -.7:30 P.M. The City Council met in adjourned session; Mayor Ralph C. Kennedy presiding. Present: G. ?[.Faker, R.P.Howell, Ralph C. 'Kennedy, Clyde T. O'Nan Absent: Fred L. Gist. The application of PT. F. Kriner for registration as Class "E" Contractor and registration fee of $15.00 together with United States Fidelity and Guaranty Co. bond ih the amount of $500 yeas presented to the Ca.zncil and on motion of R. P. Howell, 1 seconded by G.71.Baker, it raas ordered that the surety be accepted, bond approved and registration granted. Ndtification from the State Board of Equalization. received for an "On Sale Beer" License for Sam Wong and Elton L. Zehr, at 798 Palm St. was ordered filed on motion of Clyde T. O'Nan; seconded by R. P. Howell. ' Resolution No. 770 (Neva Series) - A Resolution relative to adopting budget and approving memorandum of Agreement for expenditure of 1/4 cent gas tax allocated for streets of major importance was passed and adopted upon the following roll call vote: Ayes: G. W. Baker, R. P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy,Clyde T. O'Nan Noes: None Kbsent: Fred L. Gist. Permit to erect sign No. E 10, filed by Joe L. Green, Neon Products, was again held over. Permit to erect sign No. E 119 filed by Clines Electric Service was granted on motion of Clyde T. O'Nan, seconded by G. W. Baker. Communication from D. E. Bassetti requesting a leave of absence from the Police Department from July 24th to August 11, 1946 was granted on motion of Clyde T. O'Nan, seconded by R. P.. Howell - leave to be granted without pay. Communication received from Dr. Dunk-lee re: condition of edge if pavement at Ida and Marsh Streets was referred to Commissioner of Public Works, and the communication ordered received and filed on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by G. W.Baker. The following matters were held over fbr further discussion: Transfer of license of Mission Taxi Co. from Louise Galenski & L.P.Silver to Larry Bridges Communication from Scott Dist. Co. re: the pariting problem in front of their building at 725 Pacific St. Bids as submitted by San L:tis Cyclery and John Boriack for three wheeled motorcycle. Communication from the American Legion Post #66 protesting against the action of the Council in alloting, the desi €nated Veterans' hie-_orial Hall site at Grand and Palm Stree as again presented to the Council. Members of the various veterans' organizations were 1 present and presented their views. After much discussion and consideration, Commissioner IO'Nan suggested the City acquire a nine (9) acreetract within the City Limits known as Tract 34 to solve the problem of where to erect the temporary houses for veterans, and late to be used as a park and playground site. There was little differences of opinions advance by the various veteran spokesmen who took the floor when called upon by Mayor Kennedy. George E.Stephan, Director of the County Housing Authority, appeared before the Council to review the completed federal plan for housing and the steps which led to the offering of 80 temporary dwelling units to the city, and stated that the Tract 34 site would be ide81 for the units.
