City Hall, Monday, June 22, 1953- 7:30 P.M-
The City Council met in adjourned session; Mayor Fred Lucksinger presiding.
Present: Nels Beck, Paul W.Davis, Richard E.Gragg, Kenneth W.Jones, Fred H.Lucksinger
Absent: None
Re: Bids for "Phase B" of STREET REHABILITATION PROGRAM - On motion of Paul W.Davis,
seconded by Fred Lucksinger, the Council authorized the City Clerk to advertise for
Bids on STREET RESURFACING PROJECT B, City Plan #13 -- Bids to be opened at 3 P.M.,
July 6, 1953•
Communications:
Communication from Sury -Ur -Self Laundry asking permission to move his business location
from 1$3 Higuera St. to 348 Higuera St. The matter was referred to the Building Inspector
and the Fire Dept. on motion of Paul W.Davis, seconded by Kenneth W.Jones.
Communication from San Luis Clinic Re: claim filed by Mrs. Lulu Logan was referred
to the Insurance Carrier on motion of Kenneth W. Jones, seconded by Richard E.Gragg.
Communication from the Housing Authority relative to payments of "In Lieu" taxes
was ordered received and filed.
Communication from the Office of the District Engineer, Corps of Engineers, of Los
Angeles District, relative to Shell Beach applying for a permit toinstall an outfall
sewer in the Pacific Ocean was ordered received and filed on motion of Paul W.Davis ,
seconded by Kenneth W. Jones.
The transfer of License of the Master Brake Service at 565 Higuera St. from Virgil
Negranti to 1`leyer and Ray was approved by the Council, on motion of Paul W.Davis, seconded
by Kenneth W.Jones.
The application of Wm. F.McClintic for City License for Gum and Candy Vending Machi
was approved on motion of Paul W.Davis, seconded by Fred Lucksinger.
Communication from the Division of Highways Re: Proposed Traffic Stripe on Marsh St.
and Santa Rosa St.,- this was referred to the "Traffic Committee" on motion of Paul W.
Davis, seconded.by Fred Lucksinger.
Ordinance No. 3$2 New Series) - An Ordinance repealing Ordinance No. 1 (New
Series) was finally passed on motion of Paul W. Davis, seconded by Fred Lucksinger upon
the following roll call vote:
Ayes: Nels Beck, Paul W.Davis, Richard E. Gragg, Kenneth W.Jones, Fred Lucksinger
Noes: None
Absent: None
Mr. Collins, City Collector, reported to the Council that Mrs. Helen Arnold
resigned as of July 1, 1953-
Mr. George Andre, City Attorney, read a letter from the L B.Nelson Company in
answer to Mr. Andre's letter regarding "Inspection Fees" of 14elson Tract #1. Mr. Nelson
stated that the City may take $795.47 from the inspection fees for Tract #2 and place
them on the deficit on "inspection fees" for Tract #1.
fir. Robert Merino appeared before the Council on behalf of his wife, Katherine
Merino, dba " Madam Kaye" requesting a palmistry license. i"Ir. Merino presented seven lett
from business and civic leaders in Santa 1 °iaria and Pismo Beach, recommending approval of
Madam Kaye's application. Mr. Vernie Pollard, former City Councilman of Santa Maria,
appeared before the Council on behalf of Mr. '°'erino requesting favorable consideration
of 1 °'adam Kaye's license application; the matter was held.over to the next meeting of
the Council.
