The City Council met in regular session; Mayor Fred H.Lucksinger presiding.
Present: Paul W.Davis, Marren G.Edwards, Kenneth V1.Jones, Fred H.Lucksinger

The Minutes of the meeting of March 21, 1955 were approved.
Claims against the City for the month of April were ordered paid subject to the approval
of the heads of the respective departments and the i�,ayor.
Resolution No. 143$ (New Series)= A Resolution amendin.e Resolution No. 1343 '
(1dew Series) establishing classifications, setting salaries therefo3;',.assigning City
Employees to appropriat e classifications and starting rates therein, specifying methods
of advancement, and repealing all previous salary resolutions was passed and adopted on
motion of Kenneth W.Jones, seconded by Warren G.Edwards upon the following vote:
Ayes: Paul W.Davis, Marren G.Edwards, Kenneth W.Jones! Fred H.Lucksinger
Noes: None
Absent: Nels Beck
On motion of Paul W.Davis, seconded by Kenneth W.Jones, the City Clerk was
authorized to advertise for Bids for the WATER DEPARTMENTPROJECTS.

Communication from Mrs. Theresa E.Maughmer Re: Protest installing of curbs on the norther
half of Second Street between Howard and Kentucky Streets was held overluntil the next
regular meeting, April 18, 19 55 .
On motion of Kenneth W.Jones, seconded by ;darren G.Edwards, the resignation of
Mrs. Ruby Crews Steno and matron in the Police Dept. was accepted, with regrets.
Request of the Park and Recreation Commission for increase in salary for Mrs.
Ruth Bowman, stenographer and clerk was approved on motion of :darren G.Edwards, seconded
by Kenneth VI.Jones.
Communication from the Division of Highways relative to ill prepared inlets and
outlets of the San Luis Obispo Freeway was ordered received and filed.
Communication from the Division of Highways with reference to the beautification
of the San Luis Obispo Freeway thru the City was ordered received and filed.
Commurication from the Jr. Chamber of Commerce, requesting permission to hold a
parade for the Clyd Beatty Circus was granted, and same was referred to the Police Chief
for investigation and to work out the route of march for this parade with the Jr.

Communication from Walker's Succulent Gardens was referred to the Mission Plaza
Committee.
Communication from Leone Sherwin relative to a placing of Crossing Guard at the
corner of roothill Blvd., ninccn and Tassajara Drive was referred to the Traffic Com-
mittee on motion of Kenneth W.Jones, seconded by Marren G.Edwards.
Communication from the City of Long Beach was 'yield over.
Comm. from the American Assn. of University Women relative to theestablishment of
the ]Vlis sion Gardens Plaza was ordered received and filed on motion of Kenneth W.Jones,
seconded by Warren G.Edwards.
He: Comm. from the City of Burbank enclosing a brief of the Olive Ave. and Magnolia
Blvd. grade separations, Cases No. 5315 and No. 5521 and Application No. 35062 was
read to the Council; the brief was turned over to the City Attorney, George Andre, for
study, with instructions to return same to the City Clerk.
Comm. from C.A.Maino Re: request to reinstate zone C -2 as outlined in attached map
was referred to the Planning Commission, and requesting the Planning Commission take
action on this matter, on motion of Paul W.Davis, seconded by Kenneth W.Jones.

The Proposed Ordinance regulating the keeping of animals within the City of San Luis
Obispo for the Council's consideration was ordered held over.
On motion of Kenneth W. Jones, seconded by Warren Pi.Edwards, Glen Lyons was appointed
as Fireman, Step. #1 - at $284.00 per month on a six months probationary period, effective
April 1, 1955•
The Report of the Director of Finance and theCity Clerk's Report were ordered
received and filed on motion of Kenneth W.Jones, seconded by V;Tarren G. Edwards.
At this time Mrs. Anna Covell, representing her daughter, 14adeline C.Wel,ls,
appeared before the Council regarding change in zoning on her daughters property
located at the corner of Broad and Palm Streets. Mrs. Covell stated that her property
had been rezoned "Commercial'? by the Planning Commission several years ago but in the
new Zoning Ordinance just adopted by the City of San Luis Obispo, this property was
zoned C -2 , therefore, Mrs. Covell asked that her daughter's property be checked so as to
conform with the former zoning. Mr. Seth Kinney was instructed by the Council to get
a complete report on this property regarding former zoning and reasons for the change
and to present them to the Council at the next meeting.
On motion of Warren G.Edwards, seconded by Kenneth W.Jones, the following request
payment was approved:

On motion of Paul W.Davis, seconded by Kenneth W.Jones, the meeting adjourned to April
7th, at 7 :30 P.M. on the following roll callvote:
