Dr. Loveall wished to congratulate the City-Council for the fine staff who worked with the citizens' committee in an advisory capacity. On motion of Kenneth W. Jones, seconded by Warren G. Edwards, the minutes of the meeting of the Laguna Lake Committee of July 10, 1956, were approved and ordered received and filed. On motion of Warren G. Edwards, seconded by Nels Beck, the minutes of the regular board . meeting of the Chamber of Commerce of June 11, 1956, and the financial report for the month ending June 30, 1956, of the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce, were approved and ordered received and filed. Mr. Richard D. Miller, City Administrative Officer, requested Council permission to hire an inspector for the water line construction from Stenn er to Munoz Street to start August 1, 1956, at $2.25 per hour. On motion of Nels Beck, seconded.by Warren G. Edwards, the request of Pair. Miller was granted. COMMUNICATIONS 1. Comm. from the Chamber of Commerce requesting relief from the fees charged for private fire protection service was ordered held over for further study. 2. Comm. from John C. Luthin, Water Utility Engineer, regarding the equity of the private fire protection rates in the City of San Luis Obispo was ordered held over for further study. 3. Comm. from the California Assembly committee regarding Assembly bill 662, which is to establish a pilot summer work program for young people between the ages of 14 and 17 F�J, was ordered held over for further study. Mr. Flory, Superintendent of Parks and Recreation, explained to the Council the benefits of the program which is to be established under Assembly Bill No. 662. r Ordinance No. 28 (1956 Series) An Ordinance Providing for the Removal of Obstructions to Visibility at Street Intersections within the City of San Luis Obispo, was finally passed and adopted on motion of Kenneth 11. Jones, seconded by Lowell E. Christie, by the following roll call vote: AYES:- Nels Beck, . Lowell E. Christie, Warren G. Edtiaards, Kenneth W. Jones, Fred H. Luck sine er NOES: None ABSENT: None Ordinance .No-., 29 (1956 Series) An Ordinance Regulating the Height of Fences within the THEY of San Luis Ubispo was finally passed and adopted on motion of Nels Beck, seconded by Lowell E. Christie, by the following roll call vote: AYES: Nels Beck, Lowell E. Christie, Warren G. Edwards, Kenneth W. Jones, Fred H. Lucksinger NOES: None ABSENT: None The request from. the. San Luis Obispo City School that the taxes be cancelled on property. acquired for school purposes was granted on motion of Kenneth W. Jones, seconded by Lowell E. Christie. The City Clerk was instructed to cancel said taxes. rNG At this time; Miss Eva Andre appeared before the Council protesting'the sewer easement . crossing her,.property on Dana Street. Miss Andre explained to the Council the reasons of the protest against construction of the sewer line through her property. Mr. Miller presented for the Council a letter from David F. Romero, City Engineer, to Miss Eva Andre explaining the reasons why the city wished to exercise the easement over her pro- perty for the greater benefit of the City of San Luis Obispo. Miss. Andre stated that the reason of economics for placing the sewer line through her property was not a good one in her opinion. She is requesting that the sewer line not go through her property and that the city abandon its easement through the Andre property. It was unanimous Council opinion that Miss Andre's request be denied and that the sewer line proceed as scheduled. Mr. Inman appeared before the Council regarding the trees on Mill Street, as many of.the. property owners wished to retain the trees and will pay for repavement of the sidewalks damaged by the roots adjacent to. the curb line on Mill Street. Mr. Inman further. asked . that the sidewalk grade be brought up to meet the private sidewalks on Mill Street. Mayor Fred H. Lucksin er appointed Mr. Beck and Mr. Christie to act as a Council committee to study the present city's sidewalk and tree policy. Mr. Lester-'Gibson resident of Mill Street, asked that the width of sidewalks along Mill St. be reduced to four ft. instead of the present five ft. or more. Mr. Romero.;_City Engineer, answered that the sidewalks on Mill St. will be four ft. wide. Comm. from John Badgley, Architect, offering his services to plan for the recreation and firehouse buildings to be built in the Laurel - Johnson area. The City Clerk was instructed <" to write Mr. Badgley notifying him that' there are no plans at the present time for the firehouse construction or recreation development, but that he will be notified along with other architects when and if the city plans to develope this area.
