As the firemen are in the same bracket, as the Police Officers he further-requested that
the same consideration be given the firemen. On motion of Kenneth W. Jones, seconded by
Nels Beck, the recommendation of the City Administrative Officer was accepted.
Mr. Richard D. Miller, City Administrative Officer, announced to the Council that he had
received word that the Seagrave ladder truck is on its way to San Luis Obispo and would
arrive in the near future, also the Seagrave Corporation is sending a qualified instructor
to train our firemen in the -Proper use of this equipment.
Mr. Alexander MacKay appeared before the Council protesting the noise created by the 16
cooling machines in the rear of the new super- market in the College Shopping Center. Thes
machines are in operation twenty -four hours a day and are sending renter and tenants to
other areas as no one can sleep due to the extreme noise and wind pressure of the machines
Mr. MacKay asked that the Council-do whatever possible to eliminate this terrible noise an
wind so that the opace and happiness of the residents be restored. After some discussion,
the following were appointed as a committee to investigate and report their recommendation
to the City Council zt their next meeting:
Mr. Richard D. Miller, City Administrative Officer
Mr. William M. Houser, Jr., City Attorney
Mr. David F. Romero, City Engineer
On motion of Warren G. Edwards, seconded by Lowell E. Christie, the meeting adjourned to
December 10, 1956, at 7:30 P.M.

A recommendation of Richard D. Miller, Administrative Officer, that the low bid of A. 0.
Johnson for $6,158.78 be accepted. On motion of Kenneth W. Jones, seconded by Lowell E.
Christie, the recommendation of the Administrative Officer was accepted.
Request for authority to advertise for bids on structural steel for the Johnson Avenue
Underpass was granted on motion of Kenneth W. Jones, seconded by Lowell E. Christie.
Council appointed committee of Richard D. Miller, Administrative Officer, William M. Houser
Attorney, and David F. Romero, City Engineer, reported on their meeting with Mr. Truchan,
o,emer- operator of the Hawthorne Market in College Square on Foothill Boulevard regarding
the noise problem in connection with the cooling and refrigerating equipment for the market
On motion of Kenneth IS. Jones, seconded by Lowell E. Christie, the committeets report was
ordered received and filed.
Resolution No. 154 (1956 Series) A Resolution Reducing the Various Equipment Replacement
Items to Reflect Unspent Portions Thereof and Flaking the Necessary Fund Transfers, was
passed and adopted on motion of Kenneth W. Jones, seconded by Lowell E. Christie, by the
following roll call vote:
