Jones, Mr. Miller, Administrative...Officer, was authorized to advertise for bids for the purchase of one portable air compressor for the water department. The bids are to be opened December 16, 1957, at 3:00 p.m. On motion of J. Barry Smith, seconded by Richard G. Sleight, the meeting adjorned. Approved this 9th day of December, 1957. SPECIAL MEETING - DECEMBER 6, 1957 5:00 P.M. - CITY HALL The City Council met in special called meeting with Mayor Fred H. Lucksinger presiding. Roll Call: Present: Nels Beck, Kenneth 111. Jones, Richard G. Sleight, J. Barry Smith, Fred H. Luc Absent: None City Clerk reported on the bids received for liability insurance for the City for the year 1958. One bid was received, Farmers Insurance Group (Atkinson & Hollister), total amount of premium $5,028. This is a reduction of $885.25 over the 1957 premium. On motior of Nels Beck, seconded by J. Barry Smith, the insurance was awarded to the Farmers Insurance Group. City Clerk reported on the following bids received and opened on furnishing automotive vehicles to the City of San Luis Obispo: ITEM 1. 1 Ton Pickup (Street) 2. Ton Pickup (Paint) 3. Motor Grader $15,319.00 $x12,885.00 $15,275.17 $212706.56 alt. 14,067.00 STANLEY COLE $1436.10 1433.90 1434.80 4226.50 WALLACE MACHINERY $15,851.87 Mr. Miller recommended that Items 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7 be awarded to Mel Smith., Chevrolet, as they had the low bid; and that Items 5 and 6 be awarded to Hysen Johnson Ford, as they had the low bid. Mr. Romero, City Engineer, presented a letter to the City Council urging the purchase by the City of the Caterpillar Motor Grader, even though it was not the low bid. Based on service and record of Caterpillar machinger, Mr. Romero recommended that the City purchase the Caterpillar motor grader. Mr. Miller, City Administrative Officer, stated that after a study he also concurred and recommended that the City purchase the Cater- pillar motor grader from Wallace Machinery Company. On motion of Kenneth 19. Jones, seconded by Richard G. Sleight, it was moved that the recommendation.of Mr. Miller be ap ^roved and that the automotive equipment be purchased as recommended. Introduction of Resolution No. 31$ (1957 Series). A, Resolution Increasing the 1957 -58 Budget was passed an adopted on motion of Nels Beck, seconded by Kenneth W. Jones, by the following roll call vote: AYES: Nels Beck, Kenneth W. Jones, Richard G. Sleight, J. Barry Smith, Fred H. Lucksi NTOF.S: . None ABSENT: None Mr. Miller, City Administrative Officer, recommended to the Council that the final pay- ment to Hermreck and Easter, the Essex Street Bridge Project, be held up until the failure in the bridge abutments is corrected. The contractor promised to make this correction as soon as possible. On motion of Nels Beck, seconded by Kenneth W. Jones, the recommenda tion of Mr. Miller was accepted and the Finance. Department was instructed to hold the fina payment on this project. er Comm. from Richard D. Miller, Administrative Officer, recommending to the City Council that the salary of Fire Chief Lee M. Schlobohm and Director of Public Works David F. Romerc be increased to the fifth step effective.January 1, 1958. Mr. Miller .stated that these two department heads were doing excellent work, and that the raise at this time was justified. Further, the increase to the fifth step would place all the Senior department heads of the City on the fifth pay step. On motion of Kenneth W. Jones, seconded by J. Barry Smith, the recommendation of Mr. Miller was approved and the salary step increase; authorized. On motion of Kenneth W. Jones, seconded by Nels Beck, the meeting adjourned.
