1. City Council and School Board discussed the possible future development
of San Luis Drive and the area adjacent to San Luis Drive presently
.owned by the School Board.
The following report by Mr. Romero, City Engineer was presented for
discussion:
"Members of the City Staff and School Board Staff met to
discuss future development of San Luis Drive and school
properties bodering this street. It was generally agreed
that the staff would recommend to their respective bodies
that the school deed to the City all of San Luis Drive,
from Munoz Street to Escuela.Alta Subdivision, taking into
account some widening needed to improve the intersection of
San Luis Drive and California Boulevard. The school would
also deed that area lying be San Luis Drive and the
creek., and San Luis Drive and the railroad, for park or
natural green belt purposes. The school would assume all
cost of curb, gutter, and sidewalk along the easterly side of
San Luis Drive, would replace the fence along the ball field
at their expense, and would assume all construction costs for the
parking improvements to be made near the baseball diamond.
The City would furnish engineering, surveying, and inspection
for all street work and for the parking layout, and would assume
the full cost of any curb, gutter, and sidewalk installed along
the westerly side of San Luis Drive. The City would also agree
to maintain the.park area.
If the suggestions outlined above are acceptable to the City
Council, the staff will proceed to draw up the necessary papers
and will conduct the preliminary engineering for the project."
The City Council discussed future development of land which has been
offered to the City between the creek and San Luis Drive. They also
discussed restrictions that might be placed. on the land so that an
open area or a green belt might be maintained to add beauty to the City
so that no incompatible improvements could be placed near the High.
School Campus.
Mr -. Romero, Citv Engineer presented a sketch of the.proposed improve-
ments to be made on San Luis Drive between California Blvd. and.the
Escuela Alta Tract with the City receiving San Luis Drive and property
to the creek, and the School Board improving the school property east
of San Luis Drive to the ball diamond, which would include off street
parking. Mr. Romero also presented information for improving San Luis
