ORDINANCE NO. (New Series)
AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE 1ANNER OF MkINTAINI NS
UITHIN THE CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO, AND PROVIDING P ALTIES
FOR THE VIOLATION OF SUCH ORDINANCE.
Be it ordained by the.Council of the City of San Luis Obispo,
as follows:
Section 1. An electric sign is a sign or advertising display fitted
with electric globes or electric tubes.and connected with electric
current, which globes or tubes are either located within such sign or
form the wording or design used on such sign. All other signs, whether
constructed of wood, metal or other material, and whether unlighted or
lighted indirectly or by spotlights, shall 'not be deemed electric signs.
Section 2. No person shall suspend or cause�to be suspended,. maintain
or suffer to remain over or across any street or sidewalk within the
City of San Luis Obispo, any sign or advertisement, except electric signs

securely fastened and shall be erected under the supervision of City
Engineer of the City of San Luis Obispo.
Section 4.. All electric signs shall be so constructed as to permit
such sign to be swung against and parallel with the building or other
structure to which such sign is fastened.
Section 5.. No electric sign shall be hung or suspended at an altitude
of less than 12 feet above the sidewalk.
Section 6. It shall be unlawful for any person to hang, suspend or
erect any sign or other devise to be used for advertising purposes
within the City of San Luis Obispo, unless a permit to hang, suspend,
or erect such sign or devise shall first have been obtained from the
City Council of said City.
Section 7. No person shall allow or permit any electric sign to be or
remain over or across any street or sidewalk from 8 :00 A.Y. to 5:00 P.1%,

structure to which it is fastened.

Section 9.. The provisions of this ordinance shall become effective.

Section 11. All signs or advertising devices within the City of San
Luis Obispo which do not comply with the provisions of this ordinance
shall be removed by the owner or person maintaining such signs or shall
be reconstructed so as to comply with the provisions of this ordinance
on or before the lst day of January, 1.929.
Section 12. Nothing in this ordinance contained shall be construed
to prohibit the City Council from granting special permits to hang
banners across any street.
Section 13. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with
this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 14. Any person violating any of the provisions of this
ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction
thereof shall be fined not to exceed $25.00 or imprisoned not to exceed
f iwe days.-
