AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO
CREATING THE OFFICE OF BUILDING INSPECTOR;
REGULATING THE ERECTION, CONSTRUCTION, EN-
LARGEMENT, ALTERATION, REPAIR, MOVING, RE-
MOVAL, DEMOLITION, CONVERSION, OCCUPANCY,
EQUIPMENT, USE, HEIGHT, AREA AND MAINTENANCE
OF BUILDINGS OR STRUCTURES IN THE CITY OF SAN
`1UIS OBISPO; PROVIDING FOR THE ISSUANCE OF
BUILDING PERMITS AND COLLECTION OF FEES THERE-
FOR; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION
THEREOF; AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 157
(NEW SERIES) OF THE CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO.
BE IT ORDAINED by this Council of the City of'San Luis Obispo,
as follows:
SECTION 1. The office of Building Inspector of the City of
San Luis Obispo, is hereby created and the Building Inspector is hereby
authorized and directed to enforce all of the provisions of this ordinance
and of the building code hereinafter referred to and for such purpose, he
shall have the powers of a police officer.
SECTION 2. That a certain document, as amended, three (3)
copies of which are on file in the office of the City Clerk of the City
of San Luis Obispo, being marked and designated as t'Uniform Building Code,
1937 Edition ", excluding the appendix appearing therein, except Chapter
47 relating to plastering and Section 2312, as amended, relating to
lateral bracing, which said Chapter and Section are included as part of
the building code, and which said copies, and all pages thereof upon
which any amendment has been made, may be identified by the Seal of the
City of San Luis Obispo appearing thereon, be, and the same is hereby
adopted as the building code of the City of San Luis Obispo for regulating
the erection, construction, enlargement, alteration, repair, moving., re-
moval, demolition, conversion, occupancy, equipment, use, height, area
and maintenance of all buildings and /or structures in the City of San
Luis Obispo; providing for issuance of building permits and collection
of fees therefor; and each and all of the regulations, provisions,
penalties, conditions and terms of such "Uniform Building Code, 1937

Edition ", as amended, on file in the office of the City Clerk, including
Chapter 47 relating to plastering and Section 2312, as amended, relating
to lateral bracing, are hereby referred to, adopted and made a part here-
t of as if fully set out in this ordinance.
SECTION 3. The Building Inspector shall be appointed by the
City Council and shall hold office at the pleasure of the City Council.
The Building Inspector shall receive such salary as may be determined
by resolution of the City Council.
SECTION 4. The City Council may at any time, consolidate and
place in charge of any other official of the City, the functions and
duties of the Building Inspector.
SECTION 5. Before entering upon his duties, the Building
Inspector shall furnish a bond with a surety company as sole surety,
payable to the City of San Luis Obispo, in the sum of One Thousand
Dollars ($1,000.00) conditioned that said Building Inspector will well,
truly, honestly and faithfully perform the duties of his office; pro-
vided, however, that where the office of the Building Inspector is con-
solidated and placed in charge of another official of the city who has
given a bond as such official, no separate bond shall be required of
the Building Inspector.
SECTION 6. Ordinance No. 157 (New Series) of the City of
San Luis Obispo, and all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
with this ordinance are hereby repealed.
SECTION 7. The City Clerk shall cause this ordinance to be
published for two days before its final passage in the Daily Telegram,
a daily newspaper printed, published and circulated in the City of San
Luis Obispo.
