AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO
REQUIRIi3G GASOLINE SERVICE STATIONS TO POST
GASOLINE PRICES.
��MEREAS, gasoline is a .unique commodity; and
WEEREAS, the gasoline shortage during the past year has
resulted in greatly increased gasoline prices; and
there is at times a considerable disparity in
the prices charged for gasoline by major brand suppliers in
close proximity to each other and in different areas of the
City; a-

WHERLAS, gasoline prices appear to fluctuate frequently;
vJ11h ,EAS, when service stations do not post visible signs
advising motorists of the station's gasoline prices, said
motorists can only ascertain the price of gasoline by driving
to the rumps in said station; and
WIiLREAS, the consumer would be better served and the
traffic hazards created by "shopping" motorists would be
reduced by requiring gasoline service stations to post the
prices o gasoline in locations which are visible from
passing vehicles;
.,OW, -THERLF ORE , BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City
of San Luis Obispo as follows:
SECTIO1 1. The Municipal Code is hereby amended by
adding thereto Section 4238 as follows:

Section 4203: Posting of Gasoline Prices.
.(a) Every person, firm, partnership, association, trustee,
or corporation which owns, operates, manages, leases or rents
a gasoline service station or other facility offering for sale,
selling, or otherwise dispensi-g gasoline to the public from
such a facility abutting or adjacent to a street or highway
shall post or cause to be posted or displayed and maintained
at said premises at least one sign which is clearly visible from
all traffic lanes in each direction on such street or highway.
Each said sign shall be readable from said traffic lanes
and shall indicate thereon the actual price per gallon, including
all taxes, at which each grade of gasoline is currently being
offered for sale, sold or otherwise dispensed, if at all, at
said facility on said date.
(b) Each sign posted,disnlayed or maintained pursuant to
the requirements of t

Gurnee, seconded by Councilman Norris, and on the following

NOES : Councilman. Graham and I-Iayor Schwartz
