HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-02-2016 PRC Agenda Correspondence, Item 2 ( Koteen)FEB 2 9 ?016 To: Maier, John Paul Subject: RE: Please do not reduce any tennis playing time at French Court to pickle ball From: Sent: Monday, February 29, 2016 5:03 PM To: E-mail Council Website; Ogden, Rich; Stanwyck, Shelly Subject: Please do not reduce any tennis playing time at French Court to pickle ball February 29, 2016 Dear Parks & Recreation Commissioners & City Council Members: I am concerned that the Parks & Recreation Commission wants to limit tennis playing time by allowing one of the eight public courts in town to be partially used by pickle ball playing. Tennis time is already limited by the lack of any lighting on public courts and by a tremendous amount of reserved time by leagues, tennis lessons, and Mission Prep. If French Court is striped for pickle ball with either paint or tape, it will be challenging to navigate the multiple lines, and additionally the ball will bounce differently when hitting those lines. (As tennis players, we are well aware of the ball skidding off the painted back lines already- how will pickle ball taped lines or painted lines impact our play?) I understand that the proposal is a "pilot program", but what are the criteria that the Commissioners will use to decide whether to further impact the tennis community? Please, these criteria should be clear and apparent to the public before going forward with any supposed temporary conversion of French Court. Another concern is that if this proposal goes forward, who will enforce the time frame dedicated to each conflicting sport, if need be? Wouldn't the community be better served by any reduction in tennis court use only after installation of lighting at Sinsheimer Courts? Please choose a manner to increase pickle ball time that does not negatively impact the tennis community. Thank you for your time, Peggy Koteen, 26 year resident of San Luis Obispo city 805.441.5897
