Role of City Employees:

police power of the state in protection of its
citizens and resources, all public
employees are hereby declared to be
disaster service workers subject to such
disaster service activities as may be
assigned to them by their superiors or by
law.”

Role of City Employees
During a disaster, the activities of employees
will be based on prioritized community needs
and individual/organizational skills sets
Some employees may see continued
alignment with typical daily operations
Storm event and Urban Forest Services staff
Others may find themselves using their skills
in a new manner
An incident that results in a neighborhood
evacuation and Parks & Recreation staff

Standardized training
FEMA-approved certification assists with
demonstrating eligibility for reimbursement
Majority of classes are self-paced and
online
Minimums established by anticipated
disaster response role of each
employee class and in consultation
with national and local best practices
