Dear Mayor Marx and City Council Members,
Re: 40 Buena Vista
Mentioned at a previous meeting, some e- mails submitted are disrespectful. I trust mine are not amongst
those. I do not write formally because my true language is very straight forward and from -the -heart honest.
am aware I can express thoughts better verbally because words are accompanied with feeling and attitude;
written words are devoid of such. If I submit anything that is not proper, I would welcome a personal
admonition.
Now of importance is what you decide to communicate to the owner of 40 Buena Vista. I wish he knew, as I
wish every member of Council and Staff understood, that we cannot bear one more element that may
downgrade an area. Some might consider it a handsome structure but has no overriding value to the
neighborhood and should not be allowed exceptions and exemptions as if it did.
Your last action as Council was commendable. You could not control the fact that ARC and the owner did not
comply. It is now before you with permanent residents requesting that you understand requests to disallow
exemptions and leave the owner with the responsibility of every requirement that comes with the location and
position of his lot. We need not hear how so many multigenerational family members will require so many
parking spaces, laundry rooms or a secondary dwelling any more than some council members want to hear this
allows the place to be packed with students for years before "retirement" ensues. If rather ordinary houses in
Laguna Lake rent for $4,000 to $5,000, this one built to the max is more valuable to an investor.
May I please add that limits for talking about whom will live in a house can be reconsidered --it can include
builders. Saying it will be for "families" "multigenerational families" and/ or for "retirement" need not fool you
again. Note the one submitted with a "nursery" on the floor plan that is now being used as a (unofficial) satellite
fraternity.
We, as a town with connected neighborhoods are suffering greatly; all of you are very aware of this unfortunate
circumstance. None of you may feel like crying, as I do, but we want your understanding. Now, will Buena
Vista residents feel like moving if you allow nighttime noise from a rooftop deck? Please, please, please ---if
compatibility means anything to you-- a rooftop deck IS NOT COMPATIBLE. We trust you to use your
position to say so! I look forward to a time that staff in planningibuilding can work toward benefitting existing
residents and the good of neighborhoods. I trust their job with demanding builders will be made easier by
showing them the regulations and expecting builders to follow them.
To Future SLO, Camille Small
