I certainly hope so. The Nextdoor Neighbor list is very informative about issues I would not normally hear about. Crime has been a hot topic of late and the two recent incidents..... an actual day time burglary on Skyline Drive and an incident of an individual with a flashlight casing a house on Highland Drive late at night has increased our concern. Naturally, we know that a burglary could happen at any time, but several incidents over the last few months is real. As you are aware my house is isolated except for one house near me. I do have a security alarm and cameras, but is that enough? To wake up and find an intruder casing my house would be terrifying. I'm also concerned for the young college students I hire to house sit. I can't depend on my dogs to be "alarms" as they are not guard dog wise and they are confined at night. I need to tell you that every time I come up the hill at night and see a car parked on the street I wonder if it is a hiker or a stalker. All of the neighbors want to see more patrols in the area. What is the City going to do to see that this happens. I realize that the downtown area and the local bars are a priority, but isn't it time to shift your attention to the good citizens who are becoming disillusioned with what was once a safe community? I understand from a recent article I read Santa Maria has decreased their crime numbers by adding more police to the force. It is time that SLO increased neighborhood crime surveillance and stopped this increase in crime now. I sincerely hope that you will look for ways to help make your citizens feel safe in their homes again. I might as well use this email for a second concern...... fire season. What is going to be done to help protect our area, particularly Highland Drive? I believe you mentioned that No Smoking Fire Area signs were going to be installed. When? Night hiking....several times a week I observe individuals in the morning walking down Highland Drive with backpacks and whatever that other stuff is they carry when spending the night camping out. This needs to be stopped, particularly during this dry season. Night hiking needs to be stopped earlier. You can see people starting to go on a hike at 8 or 9 o'clock. No, it is not dark, but are they really going to make it back down the hill before dark? It has been a long time since I have seen the ranger truck at the entrance to Bishop Peak. I will look forward to your answers. Best regards, Felicia M. Cashin San Luis Obispo, CA 93405
