We are writing to express our strong objection to the proposed plan to open Luneta Drive to through traffic. How can this ill-conceived proposal even see the light -of -day without a thorough vetting incorporating significant feedback, and most importantly, approval from those resident taxpayers and voters who are most directly effected? We firmly believe that this is the proper role of local government. When we and the other area residents purchased our homes, we did so with the understanding that Luneta Drive would remain a beautiful, quiet, walking residential street and not a through -fare. Opening Luneta Drive to thru traffic will have devastating negative consequences to the character of our neighborhood and the quality of our lives. We hope that you understand the critical importance of keeping Luneta Drive permanently closed to thru traffic and that you will place this urgent issue on the agenda of your next City Council meeting We believe that this action is necessary, as we have heard directly from your transportation director Tim Brochum that unless the City Council directs them to do otherwise, the transportation department will proceed with the proposed Luneta pass-thru as soon as funds are available from a developer as it is currently part of the city plan. As you can tell, the proposal to open Luneta Drive to thru traffic has caused considerable anxiety for scores of residents of our area. We hope that you understand the critical importance of keeping Luneta Drive permanently closed to thru traffic and will place this urgent issue on the agenda of your next City Council meeting. Thank you so much for your kind consideration. Sincerely, Peter and Diane Crough
