Each week for the past 15 years we have met after work to hike either Bishop's Peak or Madonna trails. However last winter, with the limitation on hiking after dusk, our group of respectful trail users found no place to engage in our hobby. I live and work in Santa Maria but I, like my friends, enjoy hiking in San Luis Obispo. The elevation that the Bishop's Peak and Madonna trails provide is great exercise and we really look forward to this outing each week. In the past I was on the board of the Santa Maria Valley Open Space and helped to establish those trails located in Orcutt. Therefore I understand about the importance of good stewardship of the trails and being respectful to the surrounding neighborhoods. Our SMVOS board worked with local residents and understood the concerns of nearby homeowners. We strove to have a harmonious relationship and to respect their property rights. Our group would welcome consideration of a permit implementation or similar program that would allow us to continue our hobby during the winter months of 2016-2017. Allowing us to hike on these open space trails until 8PM would make us all happy hikers. Respectfully Submitted, Lisa Hall Ichalll@comcast.
