Subject: Review Luneta Street General Plan and Neighborhood Traffic Issues
To: Members of the San Luis Obispo City Council:
We are the resident owners of 633 Luneta Drive which is directly across the street from 71 Palomar Avenue and a few
houses down from the posts on Luneta Drive. We are writing to express our strong support for the proposal to
authorize staff to evaluate an amendment to the General Plan eliminating the Luneta Street connection and return to
the Planning Commission and city Council with a recommendation. In addition, we support authorizing the necessary
funding to study the impact of this proposal.
When we and the other area residents purchased our homes, we did so with the understanding that Luneta Drive would
remain a beautiful, quiet, walking residential street and not a through -fare. Opening Luneta Drive to thru traffic will
have devastating negative consequences to the character of our neighborhood and the quality of our lives. We hope
that you understand the critical importance of keeping Luneta Drive permanently closed to thru traffic and that you
ultimately amend the general plan to keep Luneta permanently closed to thru traffic. We believe that this action is
necessary, as we have heard directly from your transportation director Tim Brochum that unless the City Council directs
them to do otherwise, the transportation department will proceed with the proposed Luneta pass-thru as soon as funds
are available from a developer, as it is currently part of the city plan. As you know, the proposal to open Luneta Drive to
thru traffic has caused considerable anxiety for scores of residents of our area. We hope that you understand the critical
importance of keeping Luneta Drive permanently closed to thru traffic.
Thank you so much for your kind consideration.
Sincerely,
Peter and Diane Crough
