Opening it to through traffic will further compound the noise and traffic problems that currently exist in the neighborhood. 1. Making Luneta into a through street most likely will increase the volume of traffic and compound the problems currently on Ramona. Adding more cars as a result of turning Luneta into a through street to route even more traffic, is not in the best interest of the permanent residents who are already impacted by the current noise and traffic problems. 2. Luneta is one of the quieter streets in our neighborhood and is enjoyed by walkers and bikers of all ages. Eliminating that by adding additional through traffic in a residential neighborhood is not in the best interest of the community. 3. There are alternatives to opening Luneta that can ease traffic problems on the surrounding streets, particularly on Ramona. Much of the through traffic comes from the students who drive through and/or park in order to take the bus from one of the bus stops in the neighborhood to avoid paying for a parking permit at Cal Poly. This adds to the burden of cars already in the neighborhood. Opening Luneta to through traffic is likely to add to the existing problem as it becomes an additional access. A better solution is to reorient the bus stops and provide a parking area for student cars rather than bringing them further Into the neighborhood. 4. Additionally, there are alternatives to making Luneta a through street as it is likely to make it another shortcut for cars to avoid Foothill. Much of the traffic on Ramona is traffic going through to another neighborhood or to Foothill. Similarly, cars are likely to view Luneta the same way as a shortcut between Foothill and the freeway entrance on Broad. This does nothing for the current traffic problems and has the potential to compound the existing problem. Reorienting traffic back onto Foothill rather than directing it onto a residential street is a more practical solution. Finally, Luneta should be maintained as it is currently, NOT be made into a through street. Compounding these problems by adding to them goes against what San Luis is trying to preserve in its character and livability. For these reasons, I strongly encourage you to maintain Luneta as it is currently not as a through street. Thank you, Alison Preston
