RE: Letter of Support for Bishop Street Studios.

We are writing to advocate on behalf of Transitions -Mental Health Association (TMHA) and the Housing Authority of
the City of San Luis Obispo (HASLO) to urge your support for Bishop Street Studios. This project will provide our
community with an essential service through the development of permanent, supportive, and affordable housing for
adults experiencing mental illness. Furthermore, Bishop Street Studios will restore a blighted community landmark to
its former brilliance, which will maximize the building's architectural and cultural significance to our City.
Peoples' Self -Help Housing is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable housing and programs
leading to self-sufficiency for low-income families, seniors, and other special needs groups on California's Central
Coast. In this role, we have not only undertaken the responsibility of delivering quality housing and services for our
residents, but we also believe it is essential to advocate for the most vulnerable members of our communities.
Every person deserves the right to stable and affordable housing. People experiencing mental illness often find it
extremely difficult to secure a place to live, which can make finding a job or consistent access to services seemingly
impossible. Therefore, permanent and supportive housing is understood as one of the most important steps on the
road to recovery. Bishop Street Studios will increase the available housing for adults experiencing mental illness in the
City of San Luis Obispo by approximately 30% and stand as a symbol of our community's commitment to creating a
healthy and inclusive place to live.
This project presents our City with an opportunity to transform an unused and dilapidated building into a place for
people to call home. Thank you for your time and consideration and we hope that you will join us in support of Broad
Street Studios.
