Subject: Laguna Lake
Mayor and Council:
Please include the following in your budget for the up coming year.
1. Get the permits to install a 2 1/2" pipe from the existing purple main at the Laguna Lake and allow it to flow into the
lake to maintain the water level within the lake.
2. Instruct the staff to research purchase of a used 8" dredge. There is no way that hiring a contractor will compete with
dredging the lake with our own dredge that cost only $500,000. In addition we can dredge the whole lake over a period
of years.
3. Instruct the staff to research placing the dredged material on the easterly side of the peninsula that extends out from
the launch ramp. There are options of placing the material there and covering it with clean soil that has been done in
similar situations and complies with state law.
4. Instruct the staff to remove the vegetation that has grown within the lake. It is a hindrance to using the lake with
small boats.
5. Instruct the staff to install two drop boards at the outflow side of the culvert to keep the lake ast a higher elevation to
allow for better boating use.
6. Instruct the staff to install a 48" drainage pipe and drop inlets from oceanair to the southerly side of the culvert to
insure that the homes on oceanair will not flood during a severe downpour. Now that the lake will not hold the volume
of water that it once did this is a real concern and will cost the city millions in legal fees should the owners on oceanair
litigate for damages.
Thank you for considering this request.
