Subject: 2017 Goal Setting, YAY!
Greetings Mayor Harmon and Council Members Rivoire, Christianson, Pease, and Gomez!
Thank you for your service to our City and community. Goal setting is a tough process, and I hope my
suggestions stated here will give you all something positive to add to your considerations:
Fund a needs assessment allowing completion of a guiding document for future parks acquisition and
development. Parks and Recreation Element which is over 15 years old, and is needed during this time of
growth in our city. Get closer to the P&R element of 10 acres per 1,000 residents and create an even more
livable city.
Continue to support City open space with an emphasis on maintenance and supervision of existing open space,
and acquisition of more open spaces that will also sustain and enhance this livable city. As with City parks,
work with and encourage the public to properly build, use, and enjoy open spaces for better health, living,
and community.
Get more folks out of cars by supporting alternative transportation beginning with walking and cycling
infrastructure completion, new projects development, and public outreach with focus on the Bob Jones Trail,
Railroad Safety Trail, Safe Routes to School programs, and protected bikeways. Cars isolate while bikes and
walking create community!
You have many calls for financial attention. I know you'll carefully and laboriously consider these suggestions,
as well as the MANY others I hope you'll receive, to get a feeling of the pulse of San Luis Obispo, and then to
know how best to guide our fine city.
Here's what you can expect of me: participation supporting these and other ways to enhance living for all in San
Luis Obispo. By public comment, pick and rogue hoe, service on boards of directors, I will assist you along the
way!
Thank you for your time!
Sincerely,
Gary Havas
Citizen, community volunteer, grateful to be here!
Cheers!
