Subject: Input for SLO City goal -setting workshop
To: "E-mail Council Website" <emailcouncil@slocity.org>
Hello Madam Mayor and City Council:
As I am unable to make the goal -setting workshop tonight, I thought I would email you my comments.
I am a longtime resident in the Foothill Boulevard area; we have owned our house here since 1986 and very
much like the neighborhood.
One thing that has long been promised for this neighborhood by the City is a public park. In the 30 years that I
have lived here, no significant activity toward making this come true has happened. Now there is a unique
possibility for making good on that promise: the property at 71 Palomar (most recently housed college
students; built in 1895, the "Sandford House" is on our city's Historic Resources List of Buildings). With its
location in a very busy neighborhood of families, working professionals, seniors, and students, I feel that if this
property was turned into a public park, it would be a critical cultural and recreational resource for all local age
groups. With the historic house, the many mature trees on-site, and the attractive view -shed from the hill, it
offers a unique opportunity to be repurposed into the long -promised and needed neighborhood public park.
I recommend that you give the development of this property at 71 Palomar your highest priority for
development into a neighborhood public park.
Thank you.
