Of course keeping `noise' as part of the regulation is important as life in residential neighborhoods can be improved for both permanent residents and student residents when noisy parties are soundly discouraged. Young people likely are unaware that many permanent residents moved from homes they didn't want to leave and away from San Luis Obispo, a town they loved. Those moves were specifically due to having to live in neighborhoods that changed drastically from what they once were. Homes and yards in which children once played became filled with college -aged students who played beer pong with loud voices and often foul language. Students who don't empathize should be asked if these are streets they would want their mom and dad, or grandpa and grandma to live on. Many of us warned 15 to 20 years ago that we could become Isla Vista North. City Councils were not proactive and the police were often slow to act. Thankfully, passing subsequent ordinances helped-- but continued and increased diligence is required. While I know and like many students and know of many outstanding students, I wish to make this definitive statement: It is not up to student residents to make City Policy. This has nothing to do with whether they are old enough to vote in elections. They may wish to vote in elections at any time they qualify! However, they must wait to weigh in on City Policies until they: • stay beyond their college years ■ live in San Luis Obispo as permanent residents Thank you for making important decisions on our behalf. Respectfully, Camille Small 2
