Subject: Correspondence for City Council Meeting 01/17/17 - Agenda Item #14
JAN 17 2017
Hello City Council - Please support Agenda Item 14 Extended Safety Zone Enhancement for St. Patrick/St. Fratty's Day, in
particular keeping noise as a violation, tonight at the City Council Meeting. I am a resident on Tassajara Drive with two young
children. We live near many student rentals and already deal with speeding cars, students cussing and using foul language,
often under the influence, and recently our car (as well as several on Ramona) were hit and run, parked on the street, in front of
our house. Our experience is, with no significant deterrents or adverse consequences for intoxicated loud partying, behavior
becomes erratic and unpredictable in the neighborhood. We have recently installed a camera system largely due to this
behavior.
As a Program Director of a mental health treatment program (mental health diagnoses as well as drug/alcohol disorders), I am
aware of the statistics on under -aged drinking as well as the mixing of illicit drugs with psychotropic medication among our
population. This makes for a dangerous and sometimes, fatal, combination.
I urge you, for the health of our student population (many of them still minors in need of solid boundaries and guidance) as well
as the quality of life in our neighborhoods, uphold the natural consequences (fines and penalties) for disrespectful behavior,
whether coming from students or other residents. Your support on these types of consequences and boundaries is what will
keep young families growing into older families, here in SLO.
Thank you for your hard work and commitment to the residents of SLO. I am sensitive to the challenges and many interests your
positions entail.
Sincerely,
Coraline Robinson
