The question is below with staff's response shown in italics: 1) Question: Is the Police Department planning to purchase an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle as part of the Sex Offender Registration Act (SORNA) Grant? Answer: No. The Police Department originally requested funding for an Unmanned Ariel Unit (UAV or DRONE) as part of the SORNA grant request. The purpose of the UAV was to check the areas in our creek system where are California Sexual Offender Registrants reside prior doing physical checks of these creek camps. The Department of Justice denied the use of the grant money for this purpose. The reason for the denial is that monies from this grant could only be used for California Sex Offender Registry business and they believed the UAV could be used for other purposes. The Police Department will not be obtaining a UAV from the SORNA Grant monies. Please contact Chief Cantrell at 781-7256 or at dcantrell@slocity.org if there are any questions.
