Dear Ron Combs, Doug Davidson, Rachel Cohen, Tree Committee Members, and Architectural Review
Committee (ARC) Members,
Please clarify and justify the review process for the removal of more than 50 trees at 71 Palomar. In the draft of
minutes for the December 12th Tree Committee, it states that Rachel Cohen said the ARC will have the final
decision on what will happen to the trees. It was my impression that the Tree Committee had the ability to grant
or deny tree removal, not the ARC.
Also, in the December 12, 2016, Tree Committee minutes, Tree Committee members stated that there were
"inaccuracies and inconsistencies in the consultant arborist report," and that the ARC should disregard the
report. Looking at the agenda items for the ARC it appears as though Rincon has made some minor
adjustments to their initial report. Has the Tree Committee seen the adjusted report? Will the ARC use the
Rincon report to come to a decision about the trees?
Having been invited onto the property by the previous tenants, I was able to view the trees, wildlife, and Master
Listed Historical home up close. The trees on the property at 71 Palomar represent an urban forest that should
be protected. Disturbing the trees will also upset the established foundation of the treasured Sandford House.
