Subject: ARC communication: 71 Palomar
One could write a book on why the 71 Palomar project makes no sense, but you would not have the time to read
it. Here are 4 selected arguments against this project:
1. Rachel Cohen, the person in charge of the 71 Palomar project, was employed by RINCON (the developer) as an
Associate Planner from December 2013 to November 2014. She has a conflict of interest, and this project should be
withdrawn from her hands.
2. Matt Ritter, Chair of the Tree Committee and Professor of Biology, declared the tree report made by RINCON
grossly misleading and inaccurate. He requested that the ARC postpone any review of the project until the Tree
Committee had the opportunity to correct the numerous inaccuracies in the report. He is the expert, please heed his
advice.
3. Unless you believe in alternative facts, student dorms are student dorms, and workforce housing is workforce
housing. They are not at all the same thing, and you know just as well as I do that neither students nor workforce
would want to live together in the same place.
4. Again, unless you believe in alternative facts, $4000 a month for a two-bedroom apartment is not affordable
housing. I don't know any family who could afford to pay such a high rent for so little.
Please, postpone any review of the project until the Tree Committee has the opportunity to correct the report on the
trees, and Rachel Cohen has been replaced with an unbiased person. Thank you.
