Having written and appeared before numerous City Councils and Advisory Bodies throughout the
years, I have a heartfelt concern for permanent residents in San Luis Obispo neighborhoods. For me,
and those I worked alongside, there was always a clear right and wrong. People's lives in homes and
neighborhoods they chose and loved was clearly right to defend.
By some on City Councils and all in the Community Development Department following directives
of the current City Manager, San Luis Obispo is being turned into a place that has little regard for
permanent residents' lives.
Turning my comments directly to 71 Palomar, can we agree that the developer entered into an
arrangement on this property that presented with an historic house and a large cultural
landscape? Yes.
Those valued elements should remain as they were when the agreement was made. Whatever
development allowed by the city should clearly be planned. outside of those treasured elements.
As representatives of the residents, the Cultural Heritage Commission and you on the Architectural
Review Commission should not be influenced behind the scenes by Michael Codron and Katie
Lichtig or any City Planner. We know for a fact someone on CHC was told before a meeting, "This
has to go through." Why?
You have no allegiance to the Delta Tau owners and need not worry about their profits. They will
benefit, beyond the sale of their land, by huge profits set up for their individual families far into the
future. You have no allegiance to the developer's profits.
That leaves the rest: Please protect what really matters:
• An historic structure
• An urban forest
■ Residents negatively impacted by apartments designed as student dorms
• The rest of us who care deeply that permanent residents matter.
