This is a comment on the above ordinance. This ordinance is so upsetting that, since we're out of the continental US and will be unable to attend the upcoming City Council meeting, we're sending this email to show our disgust. Some say, "Don't complain because they'll then target you." What a sad commentary on our legislators! I guess many citizens feel that once you've take away our property rights, and discriminate against us, that our sacred 1 st Amendment rights will be next on the cutting block. This ordinance is one of the worst, and most draconian I have seen in years. It clearly violated the 4th Amendment right of privacy, and further discriminates against a class citizens. This type of legislation is un-American! It is one thing to inspect a specific property upon the receipt of a tenant complaint, but to blanket all, as this legislation has done, is overly -broad, and oppressive. Our home is part of a Homeowners Assn that does an excellent job of requiring our property and others to meet and maintain its high standards. These homes were built circa 2005. There is no need for this overbearing government intrusion, violating our property and privacy rights, and those of our tenants. This legislation makes it look like the city is just trying to make money- by wringing as much as possible out of the landlords, the very group who provide much needed housing in this city. This BIG BROTHER program employs many city workers at great expense to us, to include fees of $65 + 185 = $250.00/rental housing unit. At 5,000 units, that's $1,250,000.00 to swell city coffers. Shame on all of you for doing this! For what may be a few bad landlords, the city council has cast an overly -broad net, penalizing all the good landlords. This extremely poor ordinance MUST be repealed. If not, whoever supports this poor legislation is not worthy of representing our fine city. Sincerely, Paul B. Engler
