I RECEIVtu ITEM NO.-_.._ FEB 13 2017 From: victor montgomery [ Sent: Saturday, February 11, 2017 5:05 PM To: E-mail Council Website <emailcouncil@slocity.org> Subject: Rental Inspection Ordinance - Repeal it Council Members, I am writing to urge you to repeal this ill conceived ordinance. It is in our opinion far, far to intrusive and smacks of "big brother" combined with the "nanny state". It is too expensive and we do not believe it can be justified on a cost versus benefit basis. Trying to justify this program by saying it is needed in order to protect Cal Poly students is nonsense. Cal Poly admits the best and the brightest students in our state and nation. They are capable of contacting the City Planning Department, Building Department, City Police Department, City Fire Department or the County Health Department if they have questions, feel they are being abused, endangered or cheated by their landlord. A simple 1 page flyer handed out to tenants at the time a rental agreement is signed could give them contact information to ask questions, air their grievances or report what they believe are unsafe conditions at their rental unit. It is unfortunate that the City approved and implemented this program, however that is not a reason to continue to build this new and expensive layer of bureaucracy. Unfortunately, we cannot attend the up coming meeting due to prior business meeting commitments. I hope you will keep our comments in mind.
