Subject: 2/16 Rental Inspection Meeting
San Luis Obispo City Council
Please repeal the rental inspection project. I rent the little
home that my grandparents built in the early 1900s for a small
monthly charge to people who moved into a wet house after the
1969 flood. They have been wonderful renters ever since and take
care of the house as if it were their own.
Between flood and landlord's insurance plus taxes annually,
there is not much left for maintenance and any other rental expense
such as $10,000 to replace the sewer line.
This inspection is costly, but even more, it is prejudicial since
not all homes are to be inspected, only those which are rented. I
do not know the intent of such an inspection - catching
improvements for which no permits were obtained or unsafe
dwellings or any other infraction of city ordinances. Whatever its
purpose, it is a hardship to landlords and their tenants.
Because of these reasons, I believe this costly ordinance
should be stopped. Frankly, it seems to be an overreach of
government in addition to an invasion of private property.
You can reach me at this email address or at
if you should need additional information.
I appreciate your consideration of this request.
Sincerely,
Marlene S. Wuest
