Subject: Feb 16 Rental Inspection Meeting
Rental inspection, as defined by the San Luis Obispo City Counsel, is predicated on a simple thesis: The citizens of San
Luis Obispo are too stupid to select housing appropriate to their needs and ability to pay.
So, the Counsel has instituted measures that a) will raise the cost of rental housing, b) disincentive the construction of
new rental housing and c) harass both landlords and tenants. In addition, it is an economic fact that, in spite of the
protestations of the Council, tenants will eventually pay every dime of the additional costs.
Ergo, a reduction in the availability of "affordable" housing. A problem that, conveniently, must be addressed by
another bureaucracy whose charter is to build subsidized housing to compensate for the Council aggravated housing
shortage.
Everyone loses except for the bloated city bureaucracy.
