It simply is not necessary for the government to be involved in protecting citizens from every possible harm that might befall them! Landlords provide housing for people who rent; if the housing being provided is not up to the standards of the renters they are free to either move elsewhere or to complain to government authorities about the condition of the property. It's an infringement on personal freedoms of both renters and landlords to mandate government inspections of the rental property. What's next? City inspectors coming into my home to verify that my roof doesn't leak and that my smoke alarms have fresh batteries? ...and then charge me $300 for the inspection. Get real. Sincerely, Richard K.
