HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-16-2017 - ClaudiaCOUNCIL MEETING: -i RECEIVED ITEM NO.: FEB 2017 SLO CITY CLERK From: "Claudia And Jon" < Date: Wed, Feb 15, 2017 at 7:58 AM -0800 Subject: Rental ordinance To: "E-mail Council Website" <emailcouncil(@slocity.org> City Council; I ask that you please repeal the rental ordinance. My wife and I have several rental properties in SLO and we work hard to maintain them, earning a small profit over overhead. That's how it works when you maintain properties and make improvements on a regular basis. The added cost of this program has been a substantial burden on us and of course it ends up making our rentals more expensive. Our tenants to a man want no inspections... this creates a false conflict between tenant and owner as we try to respect our tenant's privacy and explain the City's ordinance requirements. They feel it very intrusive on their quiet occupancy and are well aware that code enforcement officers are just a phone call away, if needed. Educating prospective tenants to be proactive at rental time in terms of property condition and requiring a year's lease will go a long way to alleviate conflicts and will give SLO the rental stock it expects. Code officers like Dan Liddell are out there, in the community and we feel the situation is well in hand without burdening us with the ordinance and creating this conflict between tenants and owners over inspections. Please do the right thing and remove this ordinance. Thank you. Jon and Claudia Olsen Sent from my iPad 1
